Hi everyone!

I'm really excited to be blogging here at Cigars! Especially on a day like today. You see it's Friday, the 15th of June and that is the day my very first book is being released at Triskelion (and in print format Sept 07, at Amazon, available for pre-order now!). OMG! Someone pinch me! Okay, okay. The book is titled Right in Front of You and it's a contemporay romance with a hint of suspense.

In a nut shell, NYS Trooper Jared Blake thinks his life is about to turn perfect. He just accepted his dream job and will be moving in two weeks. Things are going along smoothly until his long time friend, Ryan O'Connor recieves a threatening note. Then her apartment is broken into. Jared has two weeks to figure out who is stalking Ryan, and in two weeks, he will loose his heart forever.

Did I tell you how much I love this story? Well I love this story. I'm proud to say that it's the first novel I ever wrote. Well, wrote, then rewrote, then rewrote again and now I get to share it with you.

One thing I get asked all the time by my non-writer friends is "Where do you come up with your story ideas?" For me, that is a hard question to answer becuase they literally just come to me. Right in Front of You came to me while I was sitting out our cottage in Centeral NY watching my children swim on a beautiful July day. The sun was shinning and there wasn't a cloud in the bright blue sky. I thought to myself, "I'm so lucky" and then I thought, "What if everything you thought you didn't want, was exactly what you needed and it was right in front of you." And then I sat up and said, "I'm going to write a book about that."

I'm not kidding. That is exactly how it happened and now, four years later, it's being published.

What's next for me? Well, in September I have an antholgy due out titled Haunt Me Baby One More Time and then in October of 2007 Dark Water is being released. Dark Water takes Frank, a character out of Right in Front You and gives him his own story.

What's on the horizon for me? Well, it would appear I'm switching genres. I've always loved a good romance and some of my favorites have been category romances. Actually, they are my favorites. I think category romances are incredible reads and I think category authors are some of the best in the business. However, when I'm looking for a different kind of book to read, I gravitate toward writers like Harlan Coben (thank you Sam!), Lee Child, Vince Flynn, James Patterson, Bob Mayer, Ridley Pearson, Clive Cussler, Tami Haug, to name a few. I love thrillers.

About a year ago, I started a book titled Death by Body Parts. I had thought it would be a romantic suspense novel. I wrote some of it, but it didn't feel right to me. Like I was missing something. I struggled with it and struggled with it, but didn't want to quit on it because I knew deep down it was a damn good idea. When out of the blue it hit me, it's not a romance. I need to go darker. I need to dig deeper and write the story as a thriller. So I did.

Currently I'm polishing the book and getting it ready for my agent to shop around. But in the process of writing this book, I realized that this is where I belong. I have ideas for at least 3 more books and I'm very excited about this switch. Scared as hell, but excited too.

I made the decision to drop out of RWA Nationals this year and now I'm going to Thrillerfest in NYC. I'm scared, but in a good way. This is good for me. It's where I need to be.

With all that said, I still have ideas for romances and I won't stop writing them. Just right now, I'm focusing my effort in the thriller world.

Thanks to everyone here for letting me come over and blog about what is going on in my writing world. Feel free to ask me anything. I'm pretty open and love to chat. I have a websit and other blogs, so I hope you will visit them and find out what is going on in my world. Finally, I hope you buy Right in Front of You and I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Thanks! Jen

Woo hoo Jen!

I want to be the first one in here with comments and huge hugs, because I know just how hard she's worked to get to this great day! Congrats, Jen. :)

Jen and I have known each other for a while, I'm fortunate enough to have her living close by and we get together now and then for crit and lunch and general gossip, and I have rarely met anyone with so much energy (not to mention talent and perseverance!) Jen, you are a whirlwind!

I love it that you've discovered where your voice is heading, and I know because I've read (at least part) of your Body Parts book that you're making the right move, because you are an EXCELLENT thriller writer, and just an excellent writer in general. Lots of passion, lots of energy, and readers will LOVE you.

I also think it's brave to know when to make that kind of big shift, and it's particularly smart -- I don't think all writers necessarily know when they need to make a change, and end up chasing up the wrong tree over and over again. Having known you, and knowing some of the issues you've had with writing romance, even though you're good at it, being a thriller writer makes complete sense -- when you told me this I thought "of course -- this is perfect."

I wish you all the luck in the world no matter what you end up writing, and can't wait to see what happens from here...

Sam

I love Sam!

Have I told you I love you lately? Well, I do. Let me tell you all something about Sam. She's got to be one of the nicest, realest, honest and loving friend I've made in a long time. She's always been very supportive and open with me. She's held my hand when I needed it and told me to toughen up and move on when I've needed it. But mostly she just a kind hearted person who I admire and respect. Thanks Sam. You really are the best and we really need to do lunch, and soon! Sigh... the book isn't up on the virtual shelf yet. Hopefully by lunch. Jennifer Talty www.jennifertalty.com

what can I say but....

awwwwwww....I love you, too, Jen. You're a peach.

:)

It's really tough finding good, solid friends in the world, let alone in this business, so I really appreciate you Jen. Same back atcha.

It's very exciting, waiting to see that book pop up there, ready to be bought!

Now, on with the blogging! :)

Sam

yep

:) The publisher is in a different time zone - so, they usually go up closer to noon. Sigh... I'm very impatient. I wrote a wonderful scene this morning in my thriller. I'm having way to much fun writing in the killer's POV. I'm so weird. But it's helped pass the time while I wait. Now I have to take my daughter to her spanish exam and then to the store to buy DH a father's day present. I'm hoping the book is up when I get back. I'll only be gone for about an hour, so I'll pop back soon. Jennifer Talty www.jennifertalty.com

Oh, and before I forget...

What was that bit I read on Trisk about you POLE DANCING? ;)

S

Pole Dancing

Ha! It started off as a joke because I teach dance part time but when I told everyone I tought preschoolers they didn't believe me and figured it was belly dancing and I told them "Nope - Pole dancing is my gig." And it just stuck. But I do love dance, in all forms. I haven't done it seriously for years now, althought I did dance at the recital a few years back, and that was fun, but now I just hang out with the little ones and enjoy teaching them the basics. Besides, the basics in anything (writing included) is the foundation for greatness! Jennifer Talty www.jennifertalty.com

Congrats!

Congratulations Jen! How exciting for you. What a great day I'm sure you will be remembering this date just like the birth of your kids. Also, thanks for stopping in. I love our regulars but it is so exciting to hear what other authors are up to. I have met alot of new author finds this way. Never enough books.... I love thrillers in addition to my daily dose of romance. Recently, I discovered an author by the name of Karin Slaughter who has a great Grant County series. I know have another on the countdown release..... Jennifer Talty....I will be sure to keep my eyes out for you. Good Luck and have a wonderful ride! Debbie

Thanks Debbie!

I plan on being a regular over here from now on. I've been keeping up and lurking, but I have to participate more often. I'll have to check out Karin's books. Thanks for the tip. Jennifer Talty www.jennifertalty.com

multi-genre

How exciting, Jen! I love the sound of 'right in front of you'. And I applaud that you've made your idea come to life. I'm still at that frustrating stage of having loads of ideas that never quite make it onto paper. Your thriller sounds cool - I haven't read Harlan Coben yet though he's on the list since I read an interview with him in one of the writer's mags. I think its great that you can work in various genres and I hope the editors/publishers will support it - I look at authors like Joanne Rock (first one to mind, I know she writes romance, but I'm sure there are others who cross genres completely) - who write such a variety of lines and think, 'why not?' - why should we be restrained to just one form? Like, should Shakespeare stick to comedies and never write a tragedy?... best of luck Euri
