Season of Wishes...
Submitted by Tawny Weber on Fri, 2006-12-29 13:10.
One of the things I love best about the holidays is the way wishes seem to come true --Especially for the little ones. It's like magic.
So, now that the presents are unwrapped, the leftovers eaten and everyone's thoughts shifting back to "normal" things... what kind of magic would you wish for? Let's say Santa left you a little bag of magic dust... just enough for one wish. What would it be? Keeping with the rules the Genie from Disney's Aladdin posted- no wishing for more wishes, no bringing anyone back from the dead and no love wishes - What would you spend your wish on?
Writers --what would you want? Best seller lists? A smooth, easy writing process that stayed consistent? Hot covers? A contract?
Readers - if you could have anything on your wish list, what would it be? Your fave authors producing more books each year? One night with your favorite fictional hero? A chance to live out one of the stories you love to read?
C'mon and share - wishes rock... what're yours?

About UsWelcome to Exploding Cigars! No, we're not cigar smokers, we're just a group of authors discussing reading, writing, and whatever matters to us in any given moment. We'll talk about what we do, how we do it, what we love about it, and maybe even what we don't. Cigars Cares! Causes We Support Rerun- Horse Rescue |
okay, I can't resist
I'm such a sucker for this kind of thing. I have to admit, I was thinking about this ever since Tawny mentioned it to me yesterday, LOL.
I definitely have a writerly wish, something I mention now and again to friends and family. I would wish to be successful enough to be able to write just one or two books a year and have that be enough. I could put all of my heart, soul, creativity, time and energy into just one or two stories a year, and be successful enough to live on the proceeds.
As much as I love writing category, it's a lot writing 3-4 books a year plus proposals, plus trying to do other things. I have envy of the writers who are famous enough to be able to really just work on one, maybe two (they're also famous enough that they get to say so) and readers wait for it and love it so much they don't mind the wait.

Hi all! I'm visiting after
hey Cathie!
Happy New Year! I hope that wish comes true for you. I think wishes do have power, in the sense that if we really put our heart and souls into something, it can happen. I believe that.
I never saw the Disney version, but I assume there are no love wishes much for the same reasons love spells in other magical lore are considered dangerous -- a watch what you wish for kind of thing (anyone see the Buffy where Xander cast the love spell?) and also because we shouldn't rob someone of their free will and make them fall in love with us...
The ethics of magic. ;)
Thanks for stopping by my site -- I hope you enjoy the book!

One Wish
You can do it Mads! As Sam
Agreed!
It's simple -- all you have to do is write it. ;) One page at a time is all it takes. I think every author (maybe even more so after you've written for a while) feels like every book is like climbing a cliff. But you get there one step at a time. I've been working on a non-Blaze book that felt at points like I might never finish, but I pushed this week and finished it! When it was done (I'll still tinker and revise), it stills seems like a miracle to make it to the end each time, but it's just sitting down and writing... and writing... and writing.... ;>
Selling is always a different story, but you can't sell if you don't have any writing to get out there, and even if it doesn't sell, you have the satisfaction of having done it.
Go for it, Mads!
Sam
Many Thanks
