Double-Trouble
I'm in two places at once, today -- the blog tour post is actually over at Writeminded (link on left sidebar), so if you are following that for the contest, I hope you'll meet me there, but I am also here for my regular blog day. Good thing I got up early today. :)
But I am up early most days, usually around 7-730, though I like a slow lead into the day. I don't like to get up and bolt, for instance, on the mornings we have to be somewhere early, the airport, a car appt, I hate missing my time to sit, check email, have several cups of coffee, etc and those mornings really throw off my whole day.
On the odd morning I do get up really early, like at 5 or 6, for whatever reason, like today, I do enjoy the quiet of the early morning, especially in the spring and summer, when it's light.
I actually don't like sleeping late -- much to Mike's dismay. I enjoy getting up at the same time, even on weekends, and have this routine. The downside is that when the routine varies, things out of my control, it can flatten me for a few days. This past Monday, Mike had a biz trip, so we had to be up really early Monday, and then I didn't sleep incredibly well Mon night, and so Tues was off, and frankly, I didn't get back on the horse until yesterday. I hate it that I can be so easily thrown off my game, but I think working from home for so many years now, I have my rhythm to my day, and disruptions don't go down well.
I'm not a night person, I know that -- I am always amazed, when I have the occasional bout of insomnia, how many writers are awake writing into the wee hours and up and on Twitter, etc chatting. Amazing. After 5 for me is usually entertainment only. Dinner, TV, maybe Wii or going out, if it's a weekend, and almost always in bed by 11 or 12.
So how about you? Early bird or night owl? Do you work well around disruptions or do they throw you off your pace?

GOOOOOOOD MORNING!!!!
Sorry for shouting. Were some of you still asleep?
I am such a morning person, that now my daughter (12) goes to sleep after me. She and my husband stay up like a married couple, moseying around, reading, writing e-mail.
Then in the morning, me and my son (10) are up at dawn, reading the paper, drinking our coffee/juice.
It's actually kind of hilarious.
Morning!
I used to be up early with my Dad every day -- he'd be up really early for his work, and I got up much earlier, even as a teen, to sit and have breakfast with him, so maybe it's something we're programmed early on to do. :)
One thing I enjoy is that dh and I go to bed and normally wake up at the same time, so end and start our day together, but now and then, if he wants to stay in another hour, I've started getting up because I can't stand laying in bed when I'm awake.

Night Owl by nature
I've always had trouble getting to sleep early but when I worked full time had to force myself. Now I have to try and force myself to go to sleep reasonably early because I don't want to keep my husband awake. Unfortunately I'm of the age where I'm waking up frequently during the night and so sleep is very hard to come by. Getting old is no fun!
My husband is not necessarily a morning person but he is a routine person so he doesn't get the sleeping in either.
:)
But getting old is better than the alternative, right? ;)
My mom was a night owl, too ... and w/ her work, since it started later in the day, she would often sleep in in the morning. Some folks just have different rhythms...

MORNING
I love mornings. When I lived in Florida I had to be at work by 6, and since I worked outside, I got to watch the sky change colors and watch the sun rise.
Work week I'm up at 6, weekends I get up at 9.
I am a creature of habit. I love routine and if something goes out of sorts, I have to shape my mind around it!
You sound like me
Except, it either takes me days to shape my mind around it, LOL (I am so bad, with time change -- the one hour shift each year gets to me, and when we went to CA, it took me 3 days of sleeping nearly 10-12 hours to adjust to the time shift, and a week when we came back).
I don't like sudden shifts in routine...but life is life, so we all have to deal with them. :)

Morning all the way...
I work during the day, and muse at night...rereading, reading other stuff, etc. Lately I've been thrown off by reading late into the night, which isn't great for my daily productivity.

I hear ya
I started reading later and later, too, over the past few weeks and then Mike's trip last week reset me -- I was so tired from not sleeping when he was gone that when he got home we both went to bed at 10 two nights running, and then last night I finally got back on normal schedule, in by 1130 or so, up around 6-7.
Being up late does cost me, too, though because I am still up at the same time next morning, no matter what.

I've Changed
When I was teaching I would be up at 5am and in bed by 10pm but since retirement I am usually up until all hours of the night especially if I am reading a good book. Last night it was around 2am before I finished the book and crawled into bed and didn't get up until 9am.
Another things I learned while teaching is to shut out distractions and I'm still fairly good at that but then I'm not trying to write a book either. However if I'm reading I can and frequently do shut out anything going on. My parents would have to come over to where I was reading and take the book away to get my attention.
LOL
I think we have all been there, where people have to break us out of our books, but I don't think I have known anyone worse than my MIL... she is famous in our family for her reading habits...and she reads A LOT, LOL. I think she is mostly on a normal schedule, though, and tends to read a lot in the day and morning, because she has to be up with her dogs. :)

Alarms
One good side effect of the routine is that my body is so set to the times I sleep/wake, that I never need an alarm clock, and even when we set one, I often wake up just before it goes off. I hate when we have to set them super early, though (like I'll have to do to catch my RWA flight) because again, that throws me off... should be an interesting first day for me at RWA... LOL I hope there is strong coffee around all day...

Morning!
I am SO a morning person. If it is after 7pm or so, it can't involve much effort. After 8pm? Forget it. Get up at 4 or 5am to do it? No problem! My DH tends to stay up later. Much as I love cuddling with him when falling asleep, I love my mornings on my own, sipping chai and reading the paper or checking email. He enjoys the quiet evenings working on writing or music.
As for disruptions to the schedule...well, it depends. A lot of it is mental If I *know* ahead of time that a disruption is necessary (like next week when I drive 5 hours to catch a red-eye flight!), I can prepare for it and it usually isn't too bad. When it is a surprise (like when my 6 month old decided to be up every 1/5 hours all night two nights ago), it is much harder to adapt. Both of these scenarios have me getting little sleep that night, but one will be easier than the other. It's all in the mind... :-)

I am definitely an early
I am definitely an early bird. Even tho my husband is retired, I still get up around 3:45 am.
Disruptions don't usually bother me.
Early bird
Hail to the Redskins!
I'm an early bird. My dh is a night owl. Sometimes I'll stay up with him. I don't like it when he gets up with me, because that disrupts my routime. On days we're going somewhere, like Thursday to my cousin's Wedding, getting up together isn't any big deal.
I worked the early shift for many years which is what makes me an early bird. DD is a night owl too, and I go to bed before her and dh. Its been this way from the beginning. I used to fall asleep reading to her and dh would find her reading and me asleep. LOL.
When I have to get them up in the mornings, I joke that I wake up Grouchy and Grouchy JR. Its true.
Night owl...
but it's harder to indulge as I get older AND no thanks to these still-early-rising kids. *sigh* And yep, disruptions totally throw me off my stride... See, just not as adapatable anymore (still on that getting older theme!) ;p
So you probably already know which I am, Sam
...since I'm one of the writers you've talked to on occasion in the wee hours of the morning, LOL
I'm definitely a night owl, but sometimes I wonder if I had a different lifestyle, would I be different as well? Because of my day job, the later evening hours are my only *me* time...and I seem to regularly miss out on sleep to try to make that time last as long as possible. Perhaps if I worked at home, I would moderate my schedule a bit. I hope one day to find out! ;)
On vacations, I'm usually in bed by 1 or 2 and up by 10 or 11. But my vacations are when I catch up - routinely getting by on 4 hours sleep a night plays havoc with your system.
Fun topic! :)

But the real question is...
which bag are you using today? :-)
I fear our twin-ness has ended. I am an insomniac so, a night person. I've seen a lot of infomercials and classic TV re-runs. The more I am allowed to sleep in the morning, the happier I am.
Good evening, LOL. I'm a
Good evening, LOL. I'm a evening person Sam! I used to be one that woke up early all the time but not lately! I don't know if this is temp or not but it does mess up my schedule. I think its from getting hooked into books and reading way into the night, LOL
LOL
I've been using a new one that I made last month.. I'll see if I can post a pic. It's my "summer bag" now -- I tend to have one per season and more or less stick with it... though I will change out for a special event, at night, etc...
Sam
Early bird or night owl ?
Both, because as much as a people person that I am, I absolutely love the quiet of late evenings or mornings when everyone else is still sleeping ! :)
Just have to say AGAIN Samantha, Congrats on "Hard To Resist", I absolutely love the story, it is scorching HOT !!
Thank you!
You are so sweet. Thank you!
Sam
Hoot hoot ;)
I'm a total night owl. Sometimes - or years ago - I liked mornings fine, but now, I'm practically living on PST, while the world around me is on EST. (Sadly this makes 9 AM class bearable.]
LOL
As I mentioned earlier, time zones kill me. I have been EST my whole life, though I do wish they'd do away with stupid daylight savings time...
