Look -- I really sold!!

I mean, I know I sold last May, but it’s been an odd thing—it hasn’t actually felt real. Revisions, contracts, checks (and a celebratory pair of gorgeous boots), parties, promotions and preparation. I’ve done it all. But even as I’m coming up on the finish line of my second contracted book, it still felt... well, surreal.

Then , yesterday, I got my first cover. It rocks. It’s hot, sexy and suits the story perfectly. The backcover blurb? OMG I’d definitely buy the book after reading that! It’s amazing. I showed my kids, I showed my friends & family & husband, I shared it with everyone!

And somewhere in there, in the middle of all the staring and sharing, I stopped and just looked at the spine. And that’s what did it. My name, there on the spine of that gorgeous book. OMG wow. I sold. I finally believe it.

So, now that I’ve shared my cover love story What make a cover rock for you? When you’re in a bookstore, what kind of cover makes you go “Ohhhh, yeah, I wanna read that one!

It does make everything real, doesn't it? I love getting covers, still my favorite thing in the production process.... Just think -- you get to do this again and again!

Don't worry, we'll have the larger image of that cover up asap -- it rocks! Very classy and yes, it would draw my attention right away!

I like sensual, richly drawn, romantic covers, and I'm a little weird because while I don't think I've ever bought a book because of the cover, I have NOT bought a book because of the cover -- some covers are just too dorky for me to want to look at constantly, LOL. If I really want the book in that case, I go to ebooks.

What's the back cover copy? Now I'm all curious. Share!

Tawny, Congratulations on your new book. I love the cover and, thanks for posting the back blurb. I don't usually buy a book based on the cover so, it doesn't matter what they put on it. I buy a book based on what I read on the back blurb and, if I liked the authors previous books. In the case of a new author, I'll read any new authors book that is published then form my own opinion of the authors work. If I like the author then, I'll recommend them to all of my friends. I am such a sucker for back blurbs... the eds do such a great job with them! This one is particularly catchy... This is what ultimately sells a book to me, really.

OH YEAH Tawny! LOVE the cover and everything about it. Can't wait to pick up an autographed copy in Dallas! It's perfect! I'm not sure what I look for in a cover, but I mostly like covers that have the hero and or heroine or both. I'm really not into the baby covers or covers that are just non-living objects. I like that added help in visualizing the characters. And yours are HOT! tammy

To answer your question, the most important thing on the cover for me is the author's name! I rarely buy a book based on the cover, although a really different cover will make me pick up a new author. Oh and anything with shoes usually catches my eye. LOL. Anna

Very evocative, Tawny. I love a cover that tells a story and asks a question. I am a complete cover slut - love getting them, hang out for them, stare at them for hours when they arrive. They're kind of like movie posters. Or...book covers, I guess! Can't wait to read the first of many Tawny Webers...

Lovin' the cover! How exciting, congrats! Covers, for me is what initially pulls me to a book. Then on to read the back. The blurb ultimately wins in my decision to purchase. (Excluding books from fav authors.) I have to connect, so to speak with the blurb. Dawn
