Chocolate covers everything!
I love Chocolate and Christmas gives me a great excuse to eat it so that's even better! Often the holiday even inspires me to cook! And that takes some serious inspiration! Over at my blog each year I ask for EASY recipes. My fiancee's son needed to make school cookies with a parent as his homework. I ran to last years blog and found Cathy's (a reader) recipe for Yummy cookies. And they were! Fast. Easy. Yummy! And my fiancee made them and he can't cook lol!
Melt a stick of button in the bottom of a pan. Cover with a cup of brown sugar. Then layer a cut of nuts, chocolate chips, Butterscotch or peanut butter chips, and cocunut. Pour one can of condensed milk over the top and cook for 25 minutes on 350. That easy! Then put in the freezer for about 20 minutes to get them solid enough to cut into bars. VERY yummy indeed Cathy!
So what is YOUR secret easy favorite recipe? Or just your favorite TREAT?
I adore the mint chocolate brownies at Starbucks!! That and a white mocha! SCRUMPTOUS!
Happy happy holiday!!!!!

Oh yum!
Hi, Lisa! That sounds incredibly yummy--I'll have to try that!
I haven't been baking much the last couple years (sort of fell out of practice with kid #3, and am trying to ease my way back in now that they're almost old enough to "help"), but nothing beats freshly baked chocolate chip cookies just out of the oven :)
I do also like peanut butter blossoms, but those are a bit more work, what with the cookie making, then unwrapping the kisses and smushing them in without breaking the cookie itself...
I have grown to love the
I have grown to love the sugar cookies you plop on the tray. They make me feel like a great cook lol. I wonder if I could do the kiss thing with them? Do they go in after they cook before cooling?

Mm...
That sounds like a good combination--with the peanut butter ones, the cookies are rolled into balls which flatten slightly as they're baking, and then the kiss smushes them down in the center right after they come out of the oven. With the sugar cookies, I'd consider putting the kiss in the middle right after you take them out of the oven. Or, you might experiment with a batch where you either put them in before or halfway through? How can cookies and chocolate be bad, right? ;)
I like everything...
A little too much. I like sugar and consider it a food group, ideally the one at the bottom of the pyramid, you know, where you get the most of it daily, and so I have to be careful. Sugar messes with my moods, sleep, etc if I'm having too much, but I really love it. Sugar and TV -- you can tell what generation I grew up in. :)
Mike makes home made candies this time of year, sometimes truffles, last night candied orange peel dipped in chocolate, and he's also making two kinds of nougat, also dipped in chocolate.
All of that with the cookies is enough to keep me on a steady stream of sugar, but I have to make sure I don't over do... then again, it's only for a week or two before we start the rest of the mostly healthy new year...
Sam
Yum....
Sam, your reply reminded me of how last year, I made sweet little boxes of candied orange peel for the ladies in my office. I was inspired by a Martha Stewart holiday magazine that showed these delicately translucent citrus peels, shimmering with coated sugar. But I didn't think to dip them in chocolate...that sounds delicious.
My dad has a real sweet tooth, but keeps it under very tight reign (wish I'd inherited his self-control, but no such luck). But every year I make him a big batch of homemade peanut brittle. I use a Martha Stewart recipe (I think it comes right up if you google Martha Stewart's Peanut Brittle) and it's easy and delicious. Last year, I poured it into a decorative tin serving platter, and attached a little hammer so he could break it himself. Wrapped with clear cellophane and ribbon, it almost looked too good to eat...almost.

no easy recipes
I don't really have any easy Holiday recipes but, each year I make tons of cookies for the Holidays.
Some of the cookies that I make are: Chocolate Chip, Butter Cookies(my grandmothers recipe), Peanut Butter, Sugar, Oatmeal, Biscotti, and Pizzels. I also make homemade chocolate candy in Christmas shapes and dark chocolate fudge. I have 3 males in my house so, no matter how many cookies I make, they don't last very long.
Have a Great Holiday and I wish you the Best New Year Ever. Mads:)
Not Just the Males, Either!
Hi Mads!! Your comment about cookies not lasting very long made me laugh...I have two girls, 14 (today is her birthday!) and 10, and during the weekend snowstorm, they baked about eight dozen cookies (chocolate chip and sugar cookies). It's only Tuesday morning, and I think I saw three cookies left.
LOL!
That's exactly what happens in my house, too! And precisely why I'm not baking a lot this year. I can't resist the temptation and my kids really don't need the sugar either--they're crazy enough as it is! I am going to make some fudge though--just plain jane, milk chocolate fudge to help get me through the in-laws :)!
Belated Happy Birthday
Hi Karen, Wish your daughter a very belated Happy Birthday from me. I hope she had a really great day. Mads:)
Keeping things light this year
Normally I'd bake a few different kinds of cookies and fudge, but silly me, I decided in November it was time to lose the weight that snuck up on me over the past 10 years. :-)
I'm planning on limiting myself to making one batch of mint chocolate fudge and of course some gingerbread cookies for the kids to decorate. Other than that I'm sticking to the eating better plan.
Mike
Wow!
Mike, Good Luck with your attempt to lose weight during the Holidays. I really admire you. Not me. No Way! I'm addicted to Holiday food, and I never go on a diet until well after the Holidays. Best of Luck to you with your diet and have a wonderful Christmas and a Lean Mean New Year. Mads:)
Yummy mint chocolate brownies
Sounds really good. Have to try them next time when I am in the States.
My favorite treat is Chocolate cheesecake
Yum...
chocolate is one of my favorite treats, especially if it has mint in it!! I'll have to take a look for those brownies next time I'm at Starbucks. Yum.
I don't have a whole lot of quick and easy treats, but I have a lot of treat recipes and enjoy making them. Tonight, I'm making caramel corn for our Winter Solstice party tomorrow. YUM! Not a difficult recipe, but it takes a bit of time.
Mmm...chocolate...
