And . . . we're off!

Karen Kendall's picture

So after fifteen years of trying to get my husband to go to Europe (what can I say, he's stubborn!) we are finally taking off for Paris this morning. I can't quite believe it . . .

I promise to take lots of pictures and share them when we return. We're not taking a computer at all because I wouldn't be able to pry it out of Mr. Workaholic's cramped fingers. The guy is Type A to the 20th power, LOL. (Hey, wonder if there's a French version of Xanax?)

We'll travel around France for almost two weeks while my craziest friend stays here and babysits her five dogs and our two dogs. Yup, that's seven greyhounds and whippets in my house! They have made themselves quite comfortable on all the furniture and I half expect to walk into the living room and find them drinking, smoking and playing cards.

I think the girl greyhounds will also be borrowing from my shoe collection, which is fine as long as they wear them and don't chew them.

Anyway, this trip will be a lot of fun because I'll get to visit some of the places that my heroine in TAKE ME IF YOU CAN chases through. The book will be out in April of 2008, so I may still have time to slip some more setting details into the galleys. (If you're an author you know it's really hard to stop tinkering and let the book go to press.)

Wish me luck with my terrible, long-forgotten schoolgirl French! "Ou est la Louvre, s'il vous plait?" Au revoir, Karen who is proud to even remember how to spell that . . .

Bon Voyage, Karen!

Happy and Safe travels, and hope to hear a lot when you come back!

Quite the traveling group we have here at Cigars! ;)

Sam

Safe - and fun - journey!

Have a wonderful trip!! Kudos to you for leaving the computer behind, too!!

How Fun for You!!

Have a great time! Too bad you couldn't meet up with Sarah but I think she just left for Italy, didn't she?

We'll look forward to reading about your adventures here and in the new book!!

ani

yeah..

We missed each other by about a week or two, I think, Ani. Bummer - would have been cool to meet Karen in the person, so to speak, in such a great place. but this way, Karen and her hubby get to have a romantic just-the-two-of-them time, with no one to break the bubble. Holidays in foreign countries are great for renewing intimacy like that, in my experience. Nothing like feeling like a fish out of water to make your nearest and dearest look even dearer!

How perfect

Very good point, Sarah. And one I hadn't considered.

Now I want to go away with my hubby!!

that really is interesting...

I never thought about it that way, I just figured being in a new place always made you feel closer, but I never figured why... I guess I just thought it was anything out of the routine spiced things up a bit. Interesting... ;)

Sam

An excellent point...

Thanks--that's a valuable thing to remember, I think... maybe it's time to plan a trip :)

Good for you!

I think it's great that you are not taking a computer!
My husband and I went on vacation the summer after we got married, and stayed in a tiny cabin by a river. We didn't have a phone, t.v. or computer, and it was the best vacation I have ever had. I was worried my husband would go through withdrawals, but we both had a fantastic time!

I hope you have a fantastic trip, and can't wait to see photos!

With all those dogs, I hope your house (and shoes) is still standing when you get home! ;-)

A bientot?

Or something like that? Anyway, have a wonderful, wonderful trip! Cannot wait to hear all about your French adventures (culinary and otherwise), and see your extensive photos :) Take care!

Enjoy!!

Karen, your trip sounds wonderful!! Now I'm intrigued by your April release...any book that has the heroine chasing through international settings definitely sounds like my kind of book! Enjoy!! The only excitement I have planned is a foliage trip to the White Mountains this weekend. Nice, certainly, but no comparison to Paris in the fall!

Have fun!

Have a safe and great trip!!

Wow

Congrats, have a wonderful time.

Viens minou, minou!!!

Can't wait to compare notes!

Looking forward to hearing about your shoes purchases, Karen! I am up to four pairs, two from Paris, two from Florence. We hit Rome at the end of October, so I am holding off on more excesses until then. I know you will have a great time in Paris - it is the most beautiful city I have ever been to, and so easy to get around, and every corner offers a new discovery. Thinking of you...

Have a safe trip

and a great time

Hi

Hope you enjoy it and that you don't have too much rain :(

Have a great trip!!

I love leaving my computer behind, but I go through withdrawal for a couple days. lol I bet you'll have great time without feeling the need to log on. I swear, it's like a drug:0

That is hilarious about the dogs. I sure wish I was a fly on the wall. Who am I kidding, I wish I was there, rolling on the floor with the fur babies;)
