Twilight Fever

Karen Foley's picture

Hi, my name is Karen Foley and I'm a Twilight addict.

Seriously, I can't believe this has happened to me. I am completely and ridiculously obsessed with the movie. Although I read the books and enjoyed them, they didn't capture my imagination or appeal to my romantic side as much as the movie has. I've been to the theater to see it three times, and the only reason I haven't been more often is because I'm on business travel in Dallas, stuck in a hotel without a car.

Is this the most romantic picture of the two actors who play Edward and Bella, or what? I think they were perfect in their roles, and there's a part of me that wishes they were involved with each other outside of the film, as well.

I have an impressive collection of glossy magazines that feature interviews with the actors, and behind-the-scenes photos of the filming. I watch interviews on YouTube and have been searching for information on when the sequel will begin filming. I have even considered making a road trip to the Olympic Peninsula to see the backdrop for this story.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of obsession, either with a book they've read or a movie they've seen? Is it just me? Is this normal, or should I seek help, LOL? Share your obsession, especially if you're also a Twilight fan!

Hi Karen. I read Twilight,

Hi Karen.

I read Twilight, because my daughter read it and she "didn't get a lot of stuff."

*whew!*

I liked the book, but it didn't hook me in that way. However I feel your pain. I think it's much more normal to be hooked on Twilight than if say someone (not me of course...) was hooked on What Not to Wear. That would just be wrong...(ahem...gotta go, my show is on...)

Diana! I'm totally cracking

Diana! I'm totally cracking up right now because my daughter is completely hooked on What Not to Wear! She's seen every episode of America's Next Top Model (several times over, in fact) and is now onto this new show, which she loves. I haven't watched it, partly because I'm a little afraid I might get hooked, too!

Twilight Fever

I am a diehard Twilight fan, too, books and movie. Can't wait to see it again!

Well, it's just sort of

Well, it's just sort of funny because I remember when my older daughter was reading the books and she ate, slept, and lived for the Twilight characters. She was so in love with Edward, and would talk about him incessently, and I would smile and say, "That's nice, dear." And now I'm watching YouTube interviews with the actors, and digging for any information about either of them, and sharing all my newfound trivia with her, and she's all but saying, "That's nice, dear."

It wasn't for me

I bought the book, read about 50 pages in but it wasn't grabbing me so I gave it to a friend. Just wasn't cut out for me, I guess -- but I have definitely had those obsessions, most definitely, usually with TV shows, (Buffy, Pretender, Veronica Mars, etc) and yeah, they bring you back to your teenage crush days, but I think those obsessions are working in some way to feed our imaginations, and that's not a bad thing. :) Until we lose them, and have to find another one. I am sans obsession at the moment, and hate that. I'd hoped True Blood would fill the gap, but it didn't, disappointingly. I think I am vampire-saturated at the moment, nothing I've read re:vamps is gabbing me, so I need to look elsewhere...

You are so funny, though. Enjoy your obsession, that's what I say. :) I hope I can find another one soon, because they are fun and give life that little extra something.

Sam

Thanks, Sam! I do tend to

Thanks, Sam! I do tend to get a little crazy in my obsessions. A couple of years ago, it was Rudolph Valentino. I own every movie he ever made, books and biographies about him, etc. It lasted about a year, and I can't remember who or what finally snapped me out of it. I have friends who are obsessive about the HP movies, or the LOTR movies and while I certainly enjoyed them, never really got caught up in the mania surrounding them. But with Twilight, I am so excited that Summit Entertainment is going to do the sequels and I can continue to feed my obsession.

Hey Karen--Many years ago I

Hey Karen--Many years ago I did the Rudolph Valentino Obsession thing. Then it was Clark Gable. That was a huge obsession, and it had nothing to do with Gone With the Wind. In fact, that was one of my least favorite of his movies. I just loved him. I think It Happened One Night was what did it for me. I love my obsessions. Enjoy yours!

Well...

I haven't jumped on this particular bandwagon yet, Karen, but that doesn't mean that I won't eventually ;) It sounds like a fun obsession! And you know, there are cabs in Dallas ;p

Oh, and yes, I've been obsessed before by books (or usually, a series of books or an author, wherein I make it my life's mission to glom all of them...) or occasionally, actors ;)

YES! The rest of the review

YES! The rest of the review team is heading into downtown Dallas tonight to have dinner and listen to some music at the House of Blues, but we've become friendly with the hotel staff, and they said they would have the hotel shuttle drive me to and from the AMC movie theater, so that's my big plan for tonight!

A visit to Forks, WA

If you're going to visit Forks, you practically pass through my hometown. Let me know and I'll drive you the rest of the way!

Ani, count on it! Some of you know that I participate in these one and two-week reviews at our Agency offices around the country and that I hate, hate, hate being away from my family for so long. But I found out they're planning a review at our Seattle office next September/October and I've already volunteered to be part of the team!! Of course, I told the team leader that I would need to fly out two days early and I must have my own rental car so that I could "explore the area" (okay, Forks and La Push, and maybe if I have time, St. Helen's, Oregon). My husband thinks I'm out of my mind.

No Twilight

I haven't seen the movie or read any of Stephanie Meyer's books. I was obsessed with the Lord of the Rings trilogy when the movies came out. I would buy magazines that featured Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom. I bought the extended versions of the movies on dvd and have seen them many, many times.

I understand. I'm already

I understand. I'm already looking forward to the Twilight DVDs. I'll buy them individually as soon as they come out, and then I'll buy the complete set once all the movies are out. I'm counting on Summit Entertainment releasing an uncut version.
