Good-Bye, Mr. February

Karen Foley's picture

I may have already mentioned that my February book, Able-Bodied, is part of a 12-book miniseries called Uniformly Hot, where each month features a hero from a different branch of the military. My hero, Ransom Bennett aka Mr. February, is a Delta Force operator. His character had been demanding to have his story told for more than a year, and all the time I was writing the book, I could picture him clearly in my imagination. So when Harlequin sent me the cover for Able-Bodied, I just about fell off my chair.

It was him! My hero! Every heart-stoppingly gorgeous inch of him was exactly as I'd envisioned.

Maybe it's wrong, but I consider this cover model to be Delta Operator Ransom Bennett. My Ransom Bennett. My guy.

Mine.

He and I have a relationship, where I write his story and he lures my readers in with his sexy expression and killer abs. I don't mind that other women find him attractive, so long as they're admiring him on my cover. I've had female readers write to me, telling me that they can't get Ransom out of their heads, and how can they find an upstairs neighbor like him? Am I jealous? Absolutely not, because I know that in the end, he still belongs to me.

So imagine my surprise when, on February 22nd, I walked into my local bookstore and found my book had been pulled from the shelves and replaced with the March books. Worse, I picked up a copy of the March Uniformly Hot book, Always Ready by Joanne Rock, and who do I see on the cover? None other than my own hero! Realistically, I knew this might happen, but I never expected to find my guy cheating on me so soon! I mean, our relationship was technically still on-going. It was still February! How dare he show up on bookstore shelves, on the cover of another woman's book, while he should still be promoting my story!

Has he done this before? I mean, I wouldn't expect to be his first (after all, he's a gorgeous, healthy, all-American male), but I thought we really had something. I thought maybe I'd be his last. So to find him cavorting on another woman's cover--without any warning to me, and so soon after our own relationship had begun--well, it was a little disconcerting.

So I'm saying good-bye to Mr. February. But just remember, Joanne Rock, that he might be yours this month, but don't be surprised if he pulls the same stunt with you that he did with me. A guy like him is bound to show up on other covers...and although it will pain me to acknowledge that he's no longer mine, I'll look forward to each mouth-watering appearance!

ROTFL

Karen, you kill me... those cover guys -- you can't trust 'em!

I wish I could remember which month it was, back in 2007, I think, but there was one month where I think one guy was doing all of the authors, um, books, on the shelf, or, most of them. ;) And he thought just turning his head a little bit this way or that, or that wearing a suit instead of being shirtless would allow him to hide the fact that he was getting around?

LOL

Well, Joanne has written so many gads of books now that I'm sure she's wise to the wiles of the cover guys... ;)

Sam

Joanne...

Yes, she definitely has more experience with this than me. I just wish somebody had warned me in advance not to get too attached! I had no idea what fickle tom-cats these cover-guys can be!

he couldn't

even turn his face away the cad. I see he still has to show off those abs. Is that how you determined it was your guy? :)

Yes! Well, that and the

Yes! Well, that and the adorable little mole he has on his jaw, that I used to trace my finger across...*!SOB!* But don't worry about me...I'll be okay.

Hopefully

you'll soon get another hot ab cover guy and Ransom will see you're okay(even though he'll always hold a special place in your heart). And this new ab cover guy won't keep reminding you of Ransom(don't let him see how much power he has over you)

The slut!

How could he?

I for one am shocked.

Anything you need, I'm there for you.

(Hilarious post--you made my day!)

Thanks, Diana! And as my

Thanks, Diana! And as my sweet little 15-year old daughter put so succinctly, "Forget him, mom. He's a man-ho!"

At least you had him first :)

Aww...

Hugs, Karen! But you are just cracking me up! And hey, he may still come back to you...

able-bodied AND always ready... quite a combo

Karen, I feel your pain! But at the end of the day, I think he's worth sharing :-). Congrats on a gorgeous keeper of a cover and here's hoping your future books have lots more studs in store for you. You'll feel better once you can do a little cheating of your own... remember, you'll have lots more men in upcoming years!! Isn't it great to be a Blaze author?

Hey, I'm not sure, but it sounds like Joanne just suggested a menage... ;)

I know, I'm just bad. Joanne, good to see you -- you should come blog with us sometime. :)

Sam

Joanne!! It's great to see

Joanne!! It's great to see you here! I was wondering if I might hear from the other woman, LOL! Yes, he's definitely worth sharing, and it's hard to feel jealous when it's you he's moved on to! I've always loved your books.

Hugs,

Karen

P.S. - I finished reading Always Ready last night...whew! I loved it!! I also loved the first line of the book; I had to read it aloud to my husband, who got a kick out of it.

that gigilo!

How dare he treat you in such a manner, unless you're into that! LOL>
Just be confident in the notion that you were his best, and no matter how many mmore will pass his way he will always have a soft spot and hard abs for you!

Time heals all.

Karen--Hugs, girl. It's just too soon to see your cover guy with another author. Chocolate or wine, or both, will help ease the pain.
