The Resolution Lady Wishes Summer Was Longer--Much Longer
Can you believe that summer is almost over? Twenty days from now I’ll be back at work, preparing to housebreak a new group of eighth graders, who have undoubtedly grown rowdy over the summer. When school let out a mere eight weeks ago, I had soooo many plans, so many things I was going to accomplish. The time, however, evaporated, as it always does, and I didn’t come near achieving what I wanted to, which causes me to ask, “Did I accomplish anything this summer?”
Yes. Yes, I did. However... the achievements are not exactly mighty. For instance the storage rack project which dragged on a whole lot longer than it should have. It was my own fault. In my quest to conquer the basement, I bought this handy dandy rack in which I can place big plastic storage bins—twelve to be exact. In order to use the storage rack, however, I have to either bolt it to the wall or risk having it fall on my head (I know this from the amusing graphics on the box.) Bolting entails finding the studs, which is a snap, since the wall isn’t finished. This is where the dragging on part comes in. I know for a fact that if I bolt that rack to an unfinished wall, then that wall will stay unfinished forever, because there's no way I’m unbolting that sucker later. What could I do, but finish the wall?
This small project takes over a week, what with working it in around writing and long naps and all, but when I’m done, it looks great. Just before I leave for Nationals my husband asks why the shelves I was supposed to assemble (a different project than the storage rack, but one which will also help with basement clutter) were still in the box. (Since he's working this summer, I'm in charge of construction and home repair.) I explain that I’d been busy finishing and painting a wall no one would ever see. His response? A mystified, “Why did you do that?” Because I had to. But now the summer is almost gone and I still have a lot to do. My list is as follows:
-Weedeat property
-Mulch flower beds
-Paint exterior doors
-Replace shop door
-Assemble new storage shelves in basement
What I have done:
-Put in big new flower bed
-Recycled old computers
-Finished and painted one bitchin’ wall in the basement
-Replaced pile of junk in TV room with new pile of junk
Today’s question, which will help qualify you for the Resolution Contest is: What did you hope to accomplish this summer and what did you accomplish? List form is fine. The Resolution tote is getting more stuff all the time and I’m looking forward to giving it away on January 2.

Hey Jeannie :)
I think I have accomplished all of my writing goals this summer -- a few of them by the skin of my teeth, but now I am refocused on the fall deadlines, so I'm happy to have the summer ones behind me.
I did get more or less control over my gardens and one of the overgrown slopes to the lower yard.
I don't remember what else I hoped to accomplish... LOL Getting back and forth to RWA alive? Did that.
From here until Oct, though, I want to finish at least one quilt top (ours, which has been waiting 2 years now), start another (my niece's, which is also over a year late), and finish my ST as well as getting out 2 Harlequin props. Maybe plant a few more rose bushes.
I think that's probably enough... so this, with planting fun and some off time in the middle of it. The State Fair is coming up, and hubby's vacay, so have to take that into consideration...
Sam
Waaa...
Jeannie, we were just talking about this yesterday, how the summer's flying by and it's nearly time for school again... I have to say, I'm not thrilled ;)
As for what I hoped to accomplish:
- Clear out the guest room
- Clear out the garage
What I have done:
- Clear a tiny portion of the living room
This certainly's taking longer than I would have hoped :) But onward!
Indeed--onward!
Indeed--onward!
resolutions
The summer is going by much faster than I would like. I wanted to get painting done on oustside steps and doors but haven't found the time. Plus with everyone coming and going it's such a pain to block off an entrance but I do want to get this done before the end of fall. I also wanted to clear out all the weeds and cut back on some overgrown plants. I have managed to get part of that done.
Resolutions contest?
Hhmm...I think I must have missed details to the contest! Oh well, this is still a good exercise for me. Thanks, Jeannie.
A few things I wanted to get done this summer:
- Help DH find job
- Make friends in new town
- Plant garden
- Hang stuff on walls
- Do something just for me
What I've done so far:
- Supported DH in finding job and moving to where job is located
- Start over - making new friends in new town!
- Packed up all garden stuff....we have no area for a garden in this apartment.
- Gotten a few things on the walls...too much still in boxes on the floor, though.
- Aside from a crossword puzzle here and there...haven't really gotten this one addressed. I need to work on that.
I'm sure there are more, but I was up most of the night with a fussy baby and my brain (even after 2 cups of chai) still fills foggy, LOL!
Love the responses, ladies!

Cathy--the contest is a random drawing for a prize tote filled with goodies on January 2. We've been monitoring resolution progress, changes, (abandonment in some cases, lol) once a month. If you post 4 times during the year, then your name goes into the drawing for the tote.
Paint
We managed to paint our apartment and at the same time I had a chance to put stuff away in the closets and threw away some junk. I still need to straighten up my closet. I haven't found all my summer clothes and I have a feeling summer will be over by the time I do find my t-shirts and shorts.

Stopping to think
Accomplished:
1--got my garden planted but it needs weeding and deadheading.
2--got my sister a good birthday present.
3--got my strawberry patch almost weeded but more importantly picked a lot of small but delicious berries and froze them for winter treats.
4--still haven't bought any used books this year but oh my the new ones are piling up.
Need to do:
1--Move my iris garden--This has to be done this year I hope.
2--get used to the new BlueCart recycling program
3--get my hair cut--I'm home mostly on weekends and fighting with the wedding crowds.
4--Etc Etc Etc!
Oh Kaelee--wedding crowds
Oh Kaelee--wedding crowds are not my cup of tea. Congrats on all you've accomplished.
My List...
What I hoped to do:
1. Repaint my bedroom
2. Redo my daughters' bedrooms (including paint, new furniture and carpets)
3. Finish anthology
4. Repaint kitchen and hallway
What I actually did:
1. Redid one daughter's bedroom, including paint, new furniture, and carpet.
2. Mostly finished anthology...about 2K words to go.
That's it. Pretty pathetic, huh?
