Resolution Time Again
Why is it so much easier to resolve to take control of our lives in January than it is in May? The beginning of a new year is, of course, a key factor, but as a teacher, my year ends in May, so June should be my new year. Right? So how come I’m not rearing to take control? Why is my only goal to survive seven more days with the spawn of....or rather, the students? (I love my students, but they are preparing to leave the nest, and you know how kids act when they're planning to leave the nest...)
When I found myself thinking this way recently (a couple of minutes ago) I realized that I I needed to revisit my resolutions and make some plans for the summer. I also need to check in with my resolution crowd and see how they’re doing.
So how are you doing? Any big gains? Any new plans? Remember—post four times this year and you’re in the running for the goody bag. Many of you are already eligible. Post six times and I put your name in twice. And to spur you on, here’s a photo of the canvas bag I bought at Barnes and Noble. It will be filled with books and other goodies—one for each month of the year. The drawing will be January 2, 2010.

This bag doesn't photograph well, but it's a really nice bag. It's lined and it has a quote about books on the other side, too.
As to my personal resolutions, I’m continuing the assault on the basement and I’m starting to make headway. I’m at that point where it looks really bad because I’m shoving everything into one big pile so that I can build my shelves to organize, but it should look bitchin’ when I get done.
I do have a few plans for the summer, too. Since my husband will be doing geology, I will home alone and that’s when I work best. If he’s home, I use his presence as an excuse to procrastinate. If I hit a bump in my writing, I’ll sometimes propose a game of cribbage, then another, then two out of three, three out of five….yeah. I get a lot more done when he’s not at home. Here’s my list:
1. Win the battle of the basement and create writing and sewing areas.
2. Get my book done by June 19th. Get new proposals in soon after.
3. Exercise. I have a half marathon in July and I’m tired of running these things without training. It hurts when you do it that way.
4. Replace the doors on the shop. The original owner put interior door on and they have been destroyed by weather. I want to replace them with metal doors. I’ve been doing research. This should be interesting….
How about you? Any summer goals? And if you get to go on vacation, where will you be going?

Morning Jeannie!
I'm kind of the opposite. I feel more in control of life now, as the winter blues are gone and I am more active, outdoors and busy... I eat better, exercise more, and it seems to reset my whole life to a more productive mode in the warmer weather. So... for me, it's writing, working on the garden, sewing...the usual line up. We do have two rooms we want to paint, but we're waiting to see if the spirit moves on that... maybe in the fall. :)
Unfortunately, in the face of June taxes (we file quarterly) we've had to cancel going anywhere for the August vacation, and decided to be fiscally responsible for one more year. We'll do something next winter, when I know we really need to get out of Dodge. So for us, we'll hang close to home, though we have talked about seeking out some local white river rafting, and maybe a weekend in Pittsburgh to see Falling Water, etc.
Sam
Sorry to hear about the
Sorry to hear about the vacation, Sam, but it would be fun to get away in the winter. I love how you're always so busy.
summer goals
No vacation plans in the works. Don't feel too comfortable taking a trip since little things around the house need done. New fence is up, have to get a guy to seal around the chimney cap, and I need a new weedeater.
But some good news! That synopsis I've been procrastinating on? Finished a draft yesterday. I've been on an extended holiday weekend a.k.a mini vacation and told myself I had to do this.
And the only other goal - see how long the weather lets me go without turning on the AC.
High five on the synopsis,
High five on the synopsis, Marcie! And I hope you can go a long time without AC. I live in a desert with no AC, so I know about being hot. I pretty much stay in the basement where it's cool.
no big vacation plans
so goals will be kept small. keep legs shaved, get down to use pool more often(need to keep legs shaved for that LOL) straighten up balcony and get it ready so I can plant flowers(so behind, should be done already), keep on top of cleaning bedroom closet and get rid of cloths that don't fit or I don't wear (I think boobs grew in last 5 years cause the three dresses I have[1 with tag still on it, 1 I never wore and 1 wore once] fit everywhere except boobs LOL
Hi Christa--I had to laugh
Hi Christa--I had to laugh about the boobs, because I experienced the same thing. Suddenly I have more where I used to have less. Go figure. Everything else is the same. Hmmm.
Vacation
We might be going to Hawaii. My cousin has a friend who we can stay with. I probably won't be doing so well in the resolutions department during the summer. I've been eating a lot of ice cream and barbecue food these past two weekends.
I hope you get to go to
I hope you get to go to Hawaii. I've always wanted to go, but usually end up buying hay for my horses instead, lol.
I am still trying to eat
I am still trying to eat healthy and lose a bit of weight.
Have lost seven pounds and have kind of hit a wall. I'm still keeping to my regimen tho'.
I'm glad you're staying with
I'm glad you're staying with the regime. It's normal to hit a plateau before beginning to lose again. I'm on a plateau myself and am hoping to start shedding some pounds as soon as school ends.
I, too, am still working
I, too, am still working digitently on getting the upstairs in order. I've gone through many piles of paper/goodies and still have more. I've been shredding papers, throwing away papers but little filing yet. Yikes. I'm working at it.
No holiday planned until I get my report from my surgery.
Ah, that time again!
It's a good day for it as I'm doing a lemonade fast I read about on Romance Divas. I hope it will jumpstart my system as I've been sluggish lately. You're supposed to do it for ten days but two would be nice :-)
I'll definitely be traveling this summer since we're moving to England. Plan to do a lot of traveling while we're there, too.
Oh, and there's that book I have to write before we move....

Good luck with the book,
Good luck with the book, Jen. I am jealous of your move to England. I've always wanted to go. I'm not sure what's involved in a move overseas, but somehow I imagine it would be a bit hectic. Is there a limit as to how much you can take, etc?
Summer goals?
Besides surviving intact and keeping my hands off my children's necks, my summer goal is to keep whittling away at that overflowing "junk" room--would love to clear it out to the point that there's actually room for some people in there ;)
We don't have any vacations planned yet, but it's early yet, right? :D
Wow, Jen--you're moving to England?? Do tell! Permanent? (Nosy me...)
Hey Fedora--the
Hey Fedora--the children/neck goal is an excellent one. Good luck with that, lol. And good luck with the junk room. Sometimes I feel like my entire house is a traveling junk room. I get one room great and then discover why--all the stuff is in another room.
Heh!
Yep, I've noticed that problem myself--but this room definitely looks way worse than the others. I guess that's where all the stuff's been migrating. *sigh* ;) I'll keep you posted!
Do that--I appreciate the
Do that--I appreciate the junk room sisterhood.
I'm late to comment
It's the end of May and I still haven't got my hair cut---my resolution for April. It's hard to do such a thing when I have been traveling so much with my husband and his job. We don't need to take a vacation we just need to stop once in a while as we are driving by interesting places. I think we will be doing that more often as the tourist traps are starting to open up and the weather is warm enough to get out and enjoy.
My main resolution for the year 2009 was to not visit any used bookstores and so far I've kept that one. It's been hard as we have gone by a few I haven't been to. Let's see only 7 more months to go.
Kaelee--It's so good to hear
Kaelee--It's so good to hear what you're up to. Traveling with your husband sounds like fun--especially getting to see new places. Nothing I like better than a good tourist trap, lol.
Sorry I'm late!
But I'm still here to check in!
1) Find a new job: Well, now it's become find A job. I've gone on a few interviews (have another on Monday afternoon) but nothing has been right yet. I was told I was 2nd choice for one I really wanted which was nice to know. I did turn down one because it was just scary. But I perservere! I'm doing a lot of volunteer work right now to keep busy and give back while I can.
2) Lose weight. Even though I'm eating less, I've only lost another 1.5 lbs. But I read that stress can cause you to hold on to weight. No job, no money = stress.
3) Exercise 10 minutes a day in addition to going to Curves 3 times a week. I'm doing it. Okay, not every day but I've been trying to get in a little extra exercising. And I find I'm feeling better for it.
4) Get in touch with old friends. Not having as much luck with this one. I've reached out to a few but they haven't reached back. And I had one reach out to me but I'm not sure I can deal with all the drama this friend always surrounds herself with while I'mwhere I'm at right now. So I haven't done anything yet.
And that's it for me! No summer plans, we took vac in April this year. I am spending more time outdoors than I normally have and actually have a tan for the first time since I started college! So that's almost as good as a vacation since I LOOK like I've been vacationing!
