WINNERS ANNOUNCED--Guilty Pleasure Book Give Away

JeannieWatt's picture

Sorry to be skating in late today. To make up for it, I’m giving away a couple of books. I just got my author copies last week and I’m ready to mail a few out.

I’m late because I was indulging in a guilty pleasure day. Since I don’t have to go to work, I’d decided to make good use of my time and clean house today, before coming to my senses and realizing tha the house will wait. (It always does.) Instead I decided that I would watch DVDs --on my computer, so I can indulge in all the stuff that drives my husband crazy, as in--“You’re watching The Replacements again?” Hey...is it even possible to get enough Keanu Reeves? I mean, really.

And then I realized it was my blog day. (Yowza!) That’s my excuse. So now I ‘m incorporating my blog into guilty pleasure day. To win a book, all you have to do is tell me one or two of your guilty pleasures.

Here are a few of mine...

Ice, Ice Baby. I’m not a Vanilla Ice fan, but I get a kick out of that song, even with the lifted riff. And when the video comes on VH1, I drop what I’m doing and run in to relive the ‘80’s. It’s so campy and amusing. (So are the 80's in many respects. I love the 80's.)

Keanu Reeves.

Major League—the movie. I’m a Charlie Sheen fan. Yes, I know he has trouble in his personal life, but I love watching him walk onto that ball field, wearing the big glasses while the crowd chants Wild Thing.

Slap Shot—hilarious raunchy movie written by a woman. The first DVD I ever bought. Love the Hansen brothers.

Ice Castles. I bought the video and made my daughter watch it. Now she’s a convert.

Frosting on graham crackers. Sometimes I’d rather have that than cheesecake.

That’s a partial list. So before the day is out, I plan to watch Major League and The Replacements while eating graham crackers with frosting. And then I might exercise while listening to Ice, Ice Baby.

So, if you tell me a few of your guilty pleasures, I’ll put you in the drawing for a book. I can't wait to hear what other people do on Guilty Pleasure Day!

Chocolate

Chocolate is my main guilty pleasure! Then there is buying books, and reading. I also love to watch romantic movies and my hubby hates them. So I slip then in when he is at work or late a night while he is sleeping. I love The Holiday, Pretty women, Dirty Dancing, The Cutting Edge, just to name a few. I also love fabric, because I piece quilts for a hobbie. I think I have mention enough quilty pleasures for today.

oh yeah

Count me in on the fabric thing, too -- that's a major one...

Sam

Hi--we share many of the

Hi--we share many of the same guilty pleasures and I looooove fabric. I just can't get enough. My husband and I work at the same job, so I rarely get the TV to myself. I'm so glad my computer plays DVDs.

Mine

So many, and not nearly enough guilt, LOL

But I would start with a TV marathon -- like watching 5-6 Burn Notices or Pretenders in an evening...

Anything with cheese, since I don't tolerate dairy very well.

Donuts for breakfast! Only about 2-3 times a year, and I look forward to it.

The Ghost Whisperer -- I know it's hokey, but I can't resist...

Sam

HAy Sam

Donuts for breakfast--love it! I'm not familiar with the Ghost Whisperer, but I am a huge fan of hokey, so I'll have to look into it.

Mmm, guilty pleasures. Mine

Mmm, guilty pleasures. Mine is a nice glass of port after I've finished writing a particularly challenging scene. And I lovestrawberries and whip cream--even more guilty when the strawberries are out of season.

I just discovered port last winter. I love port. I've been exploring the tawnys this winter. Good to meet a fellow port lover.

Oh my, guilty pleasures

Oh my, guilty pleasures coming right up:

plain potato chips with Dill Pickle dip
Wing Night at our local Bar and Grill
Lasagna (or anything pasta)

Buddy,

This Christmas we had lasagne for Christmas dinner. After much debate, we all agreed that we hated turkey, tolerated ham and love lasagna. Best Christmas dinner ever and the leftovers were fabulous. (I love day old lasagna, after the flavors have time to mix.) Wing nights are great, too.

Guilty Pleasures

My guilty pleasures include:
Stupid comedy movies like "Wedding Crashers," "Old School," "Revenge of the Nerds," and "Porky's."
Chips-Doritos, barbecue, kettle cooked
Fruity alcoholic drinks

I swear, Jane--kettle cook

I swear, Jane--kettle cook anything and it's a guilty pleasure. I haven't seen Porky's in a while, but I watched Revenge of the Nerds recently. I love stupid comedies. Talladaga Nights is one of my favorites, too.

Guilty Pleasures

Here are my guilty pleasures in to no particular order:
chocolate of any kind but mostly dark, books, nuts primarily pecans (pecans covered in chocolate - yummy).

Books, chocolate and

Books, chocolate and pecans--there's no way you can go wrong with that list, especially if you combine all three. Throw a foot rub in and I believe it's called nirvana :)

I thought I understood guilt

Hey Jeannie,

I've never, not once, felt guilty about watching Slapshot. That's a particularly wonderful example of a particular kind of cinema--the School of Sports Movies with a Message Plus Naked Skating, Canadian Accents, and Paul Newman. Not many films fall into that school of cinema, but the ones that do are gems, I tell you, not reasons for guilt.

I had no idea it was written by a woman, but all of a sudden the naked skating makes a lot of sense. The Hansens, on the other hand, will never make sense, but they will always make me laugh. ("Rootbeer?" Hee.)

Ellen H.

Ellen, me love--guilty

Ellen, me love--guilty pleasures are ones you take when you are supposed to be doing something else--meeting a deadline, doing line edits, finding the stuff for the taxes. Now I don't actually feel guilty. I just know that I should feel guilty. That's the guilt part. And I'm so glad you love Slap Shot. Here's how old I am--I was working at a theatre when it was released. I watched the nekkid skating every night for a week. We need to find other off the wall movies we have in common.

Naked skating...*sigh*

Jelly beans? How fun!

Jelly beans? How fun! Also, I'll be mailing the book you won around Christmas time tomorrow. I hope you enjoy it.

Jeannie

my guilty pleasure

The movie "You've Got Mail" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. I watch it every time it comes on cable, no matter what part of the movie is on. And I own the DVD!
"CSI" - the Vegas one. Yummy on William Peterson, but I guess I have to find a new guilty pleasure....
which will be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on really fresh bread.

Hey Marcie

I've never seen You've Got Mail! I know my daughter owns it, so I'll have to ask her to loan it to me. Oh, and I love PB&J on really fresh bread. That's actually right up there with frosting on graham crackers and it's good for you, too!

With the size of my TBR...

I suppose getting more books ought to be a guilty pleasure ;) But I can't stop acquiring more! Chocolate and ice cream (though not always together), a good pedicure... Mmm... Maybe I ought to go book an appointment!

Guilty pleasures

Now we shouldnt feel too guilty about our pleasures now should we.
mine are:
Doritos with french onion dip
Blackberry Merlot
Cheesecake, in any flavor or form
and of course
Phantom of the Opera ( im such a gerard butler fan! Yummy)

cool, post
jody

Homemade ice cream. I try to

Homemade ice cream. I try to reason that if I have to eat it at least this way I can control what goes into it and the fat content. And of course books and more books.

Guilty pleasures

My guilty pleasures are:
adding books to my huge tbr pile, chocolate, ice cream, and luxurious bath products and lotions

Guilty Pleasures

Chocolate is my favorite and having a Boston cream donut for breakfast is the best. And of course watching TV or reading instead of doing housework is another guilty pleasure.

Everyone is making me hungry

Everyone is making me hungry now--especially the Boston cream donut :)
