August Resolutions

JeannieWatt's picture

August is almost officially over. The school year has officially begun for me. And do I ever have goals.

1. Survive school year.
2. Finish challenging revisions by middle of September.
3. Survive school year.

However, I thought I should have some other goals, so I’m picking one movie, one book and one recipe to try before September is over. Kind of a modified Resolutions goal set.

Book—The Lost Painting by Jonathan Harr.
A friend of mine bought an unsigned painting in an antique store than may be a genuine Wimer. If so, his investment increases by about three zeroes. If not, he has a fascinating tale to tell. He suggested this book and I can’t wait to read it.

Movie—All About Steve
I’m a huge Sandra Bullock fan. I loved The Proposal and I’m glad she has two movies out this year.

Recipe—Vegetarian Paella
My husband is a vegetarian, so we’re always on the lookout for new recipes. This one looked good. I’ll let you know how it goes.

So to enter this month’s Resolution Contest, tell me a book, a movie and a recipe you’re going to experience.

Ooh...

Hi, Jeannie! How totally fun!
Let's see:
Book--Just got Annabelle's Courtship (by Lucy Monroe) from a friend, so that's on top of the TBR.

Movie--I don't watch too many movies, but we've got Inkheart to share with the kids, so that'll probably be it :)

Recipe--Reusing the Kahlua Pork recipe (slow cooker, super easy) soon, but hoping to try a new Korean glass noodle recipe soon. Must go grocery shopping first!

Can't believe it's almost September!

Hmm

Book-"I Can See You" by Karen Rose
I love her books and can't wait to sit down and finally start her newest release.

Movie-"Watchmen"
I have the DVD and looking forward to this graphic novel adaptation.

Recipe-Scallops in miso sauce
My cousin made this for me a few months ago and I want try to see if I can replicate the flavor.

Book - Technicaly Michael

Book - Technicaly Michael Connelly "Brass Verdict" since it's been on my TBR pile for ever. I'm a huge Harry Bosch fan but I'm still in a "romance" mood ;-)
My most anticipated book for september would be How to Tame a modern Rogue. It should be in the mail tomorrow... can't wait !!

Movie - Didn't have one before I read your post. After watching the trailer on youtube I can safely say that All About Steve is my movie pick !!

Recipe - I've just come back from a 3 weeks vacation in Spain and braught back a special Paella dish home with me. I'll have guests to test it in 2 weeks. I'll do the regular chicken/seafood paella... never done it before but it looks quite simple to make... we'll see ;-)

Ooh, fun!

Book: I think "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Piccoult. I've started one of her others and couldn't bring myself to keep reading. I've started this one and am not liking the writing style again, but a number of people want to discuss it with me. I love to discuss books and miss my book club, so I'm going to try very hard to work through this book!

Movie: Pay It Forward. With the wee miss, DH and I don't get to watch movies very often (by the time she goes to bed, we're usually ready, too!) and when we do, they have to be split into two segments. This is one we've both been wanting to watch, so I'm going to work to make sure it happens this month!

Recipe: Chocolate Bread. I tried a version a couple weeks ago and wasn't impressed. I have another recipe that I'm going to try and see if it is any better. I mean, it is *chocolate*, right? :-)

Jeannie, our local church

Jeannie, our local church was cleaning out its attic and came across an oil painting of the Madonna. They did some checking and found out it was an original master, painted during the Italian Renaissance some 500 years ago, and it sold at Sotheby's for $1.1M!!

My 15-year old daughter just made a homemade harvest pumpkin soup that was fabulous...better than anything I've ever had in a restaurant. With a crusty loaf of bread, this was the best meal I've had in a long time. If you want the recipe, let me know.

Karen, what a story !!!

Good for your church... I guess they didn't expect THAT much donation !!!
About the pumpkin soup, my son is CRAZY about it. It's still very hot here in France and he's already asked me for some !! PLease could you give me your recipe ???? (hope it's not a secret one)... I'm sure I'm not the only one interested !!;-)

I must admit to an ulterior

I must admit to an ulterior motive here....now I have a list of movies, books and recipes to check out. :)

All your choices sound wonderful.

Karen--How cool for the church! There is a missing Frederick Remington floating around somewhere, and I see no reason why it can't be tucked in my basement somewhere...;-)

Fun

Great to have fun goals!

I don't do movies much, but there are several new TV shows I want to see, including the new Christian Slater show, The Forgotten. Right up my alley, as they say.

Books, I just discovered Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. Most excellent.

Recipes, I just don't know... I'd have to think about that one, but I'll come up with something. ;)

Nice to see you popping out, Jeannie. :)

Sam

ok, my turn

Book - books 2 & 3 of Leslie Parrish's Black CATS series

Movie - Coraline (on DVD)

Recipe - not much of a cook, but something besides chicken, pizza, or eggs on the weekend (the only time I cook dinner).

Brain is mush

I just finished Karen Marie Moning's latest in the Fever series (fabulous, BTW) and I'm back on deadline so I don't know if I'll have time to read for pleasure. *sigh*

Movie: I love Sandra Bullock, too! I hope to see All About Steve. It looks funny. Plus Bradley Cooper is hot!

Recipe: I hate to cook. So I avoid recipes. But my aunt (who happens to be with us right now) loves to cook so I let her surprise me!

My resolutions

Book - Tortured by Amanda McIntyre

Movie - Halloween II (doesn't take much to get me in the spirit) lol

Recipe - I'm thinking that Pumpkin soup.
