Go ahead. . .ask us anything!

Samantha Hunter's picture

Hey friends, when I asked you all about what you wanted to hear about in blogs, you said. . .us. :) So, I thought maybe we could put you in the driver's seat and give you the chance to interview us.

For the rest of July, this thread will stay at the top of the blog, and you can use the comments to ask us whatever questions you want.

No more than three questions per person, and if you want your question answered by a specific author, note that. Once enough questions have accumulated, each of us will take 7 or 10 of the questions (or as many as we can handle) and answer them in an August blog post, so keep an eye out for the answers coming your way.

Ask away. :)

Question for you All

I hope I'm doing this right :) I really love it over here since I found it :) First Question: I'd love to ask you all what do you do to celebrate your release? If you don't celebrate it, if you started to now, what would you do each book to celebrate its release. Second Question: You'll have a dinner at your house and you can invite up to three authors, living or from that past, that influenced you in any way. Who would you invite? What would you love to ask them? And what would you serve? Third Question: Since I don't get out to shop as much as I used to, I'm behind some blazes/series books, but I heard that there are some with paranormal themes (which I'd love to find out which) if you have already or would like to, what paranormal theme would you like to write in a blaze/your book? What would it be about? Thanks!

That's exactly right

Great Cathie, thanks. Fun questions! I'll have to sit on my hands until August to resist answering, but that's exactly the idea. :)

questions

For all authors: Is there different genres that you would like to write? Why? Hugs,Danette http://nenscl.blogspot.com

Narrowed down to one

I had to narrow my questions down to just one. There isn't enough room for all of the questions that I have. Ok, Here goes. This is for all of you. What was your reaction the first time you got the call and, what did you do to celebrate? Mads:)

only three...

never enough for a stickbeak like me, but here goes. This first one for Sarah (and anyone else who'se written for TV) - how on earth do you manage to come up with that much material in a week - I mean, I never consider myself short of ideas, but soaps have, what, 6 or so? storylines interweaving and four or five episodes a week.... that's a lot of plot! And how do you feel about it, watching actors mangle your lines - or do they bring them to life? oh dang, that's two questions. The other one is, can you name on or two really significant influences on your early writing - was there something you read, something someone commented on in your work perhaps - that was a major 'aha' moment that helped you make that step from wannabe/student/apprentice to professional writer. Euri

???

For all of you: 1) Who were your early influences, the writers that helped shape you? 2) Have your friends & family been supportive all along or did they just consider it "your little hobby" until you got published? Their reaction now? 3) How do you get your story ideas? LOLOL That was a goof! I'll come up with a third question (for real) later. ani

Question 3

Again, for all of you: 3) How did you get the drive to submit in the first place and if you got a rejection the first time, how did you overcome that and keep trying?

Courage

My general questions: 1) How did you get the courage to try and write? Was there any one moment when you just kinda said...."I need to put this down on paper?" 2) Who did you first open up to with your desire to write? and to read what you had written? 3) How do you apply dialogue to make the story flow? 4) Are you a real "people watcher"? Do you base characters on people you know or do you find yourself invinting stories about people in line at the market? Debbie

One at a time...

Question One: What do you think (or know) you did to get over the hurdle to becoming a published author? Margaret

What...How....Do...How?

1. What is your process for writing? Do you outline, free flow, ect....? 2. How do you know which scenes or characters to develop more or less? 3. Do you write for a certain amount of time each day? 4. Who reads and comments on your work, besides your official editor?

a few more questions

When you submit to your editor, do you submit the synopsis first or the MS? How many pages does a typical synopsis have? For a first time writer, would you advise them to submit the synopsis or the MS first?

This, That, and The Other

ANTHOLOGIES - How do those come about? Are you approached by your editor or do you come up with a theme with friends and pitch them that way? RESEARCH - What is your favorite research tool? A website you can't do without? A book? Coffehouse? UP NEXT - What gave you the ideas for your next two projects? Jenna Bayley-Burke

whew...

These are some cool questions, I'm itching to answer but will wait my turn. :)

Just to let you know, I did mean you could ask us anything -- we can opt out if we don't want to answer, LOL, but you can ask us about non-writing things, too.

We love talking writing, of course, but I didn't want anyone thinking they couldn't play if they didn't have writing questions -- whatever they are, ask away! :)

Sam

Oh Boy! A can of worms.

Ask and you shall receive. 1. Did you ever have an embarrassing moment in public? What was it and, how did you react? 2. Did you ever get so mad that you threw something and broke it? What caused this and what did you break? 3. If you had the ability to change anything from your past, what would you change and why? Ok, I opened the can of worms, now it's up to the rest of you to continue. You had to ask Sam. You should know better. Come on ladies, give our favorite authors something to think about. Me Bad Mads:)

I'm going to sneak in another question

Again this is for all the authors: Do you ever feel constricted by writing categories? I was reading one recently (not by any of you) and the story was so dense and convoluted (but intriquing) that it really didn't fit the medium. Do any of you ever feel that way?? ani

Mini Blazes?

I have picked up in a couple of places that Harlequin is going to have a new line of Mini Blazes called Blush. Is there any information that you can share with us? Are they a line of their own, or an offshot of Blaze? Thanks for any help you might be able to give. And if this has been covered before, sorry for the repeat.

I'll just jump in quickly here on this...

Hey Cryna :) Not mini-Blazes, but a mini-series (like Extreme, Forbidden Fantasies, etc) that is supposed to be Blaze with a lighter touch, sort of what Temptations used to be. The word count may be a little less, but I don't think they will be mini-versions of regular Blaze, unless I am remembering what I heard wrong... ;) If you look on the Making Steam thread over at eHarlequin under Simply Series, Brenda Chin posted about it...

Sam

What Sam Said

Blaze Blush will be a series within the series. From what I understood, one Blaze a month will be a Blush - Temptation-esque fun with the Blaze sexiness. They'll have a little different cover, but the still be full length, regular Blazes. The Blush series kicks off in December (I think I heard Cathy Yardly will be the first) and my January release, DOES SHE DARE?, will be a Blush :-)

oops!

Sorry Tawny, I forgot you were doing one! I think Joanne Rock will have another -- Brenda mentioned the first 6, but I didn't know they'd be monthly. I thought it was more intermittent, like Extremes, etc...

Sam

Thank you

Thank you for the information and for pointing me in the right direction about the upcoming Blush, I really appreciate it.

Blog site

How did y'all decide to blog together? Are y'all in the same area geographically? Are you personal friends?

One more question

Besides your editor who is your Critique Partner? How do you 'find' one? My instructor from my college English class said I had good critique comments for the other students. Does anyone need a CP? LOL. :D Thank you, Tracey
