Thanks for the Memories!

I'm going to miss Cigars and all the folks who have been a part of it. We've had some great conversations and I'm glad I was able to be here this year.

I had just sent Sam my December cover right before we decided it was time to move on and it never got posted here. Want to see it anyway? ;-)

planb.jpg
(I'm working on the FAQ for it right now!) I posted two excerpts on my blog and website this weekend.

Luckily we don't have to say good-bye forever. I'll be around the Super boards at eHarlequin and I'll blog there on the Super blog and my own personal blog. I'm also on Facebook and Myspace, but I don't post very much there.

I hope I'll see lots of the Cigars folks around the romance world!

In the meantime:

Stick with your resolutions--you know Jeannie's watching!
Don't buy too many shoes. ;-)
Keep writing.
Stay in touch!

Take care!
Ellen

It's a wonderful cover!

I'm glad you got it posted... I love, love, love the title.

I know you have been such a great blogger, Ellen -- so funny and clever -- I'm glad to hear you will be posting elsewhere, and I know I'll see you on the Supers list, if I can ever catch up enough to post there regularly...

Sam

The title

Thanks, Sam! I've had a great time here at Cigars. I'm glad you and Jeannie convinced me I wanted to be a blogger. ;-)

The title is a funny story. I was calling the book The Runner-up. Sarah, the heroine, feels as if her life hasn't worked out the way she expected, and she used to be in pageants, and her husband left her for his boss. I thought The Runner-up worked very well. The HQ title folks did not. ;-)

They came back with Plan B, Boyfriend. I hated it. I thought it made Charlie (the hero) sound like a second-rate boyfriend, like a boyfriend from the B Team. So I sent in a big batch of suggestions, but no one liked any of them. Finally, in desperation, I asked if they could at least change the comma to a colon. Plan B: Boyfriend.

Same words, different meaning. Now Sarah is making a plan B. She wants to find a boyfriend, and anyone who knows Charlie knows he'll be a First Rate, A++ boyfriend. The title people said okay and so the title was changed.

Thank goodness. That comma was really going to bug me if it had stayed. ;-)

Thanks again for inviting me into the Cigars community!
Ellen

Lovely Cover

Punctuation makes quite a difference. Love the title. There's a Hometown USA flash on the front. Does this mean it is a part of a series?

Ellen borrowed your first book from the library and became an instant fan. I was so happy when you joined LIAEC. Now I’m so sad to see the end of Cigars but I’m so happy for the time I’ve had here both as a lurker and a commentator. You were already on my must buy list but I have added quite a few more authors from the time I’ve spent here. I’m happy everyone is so busy writing and producing more books for me to enjoy. I’ll be watching for all of them.

Hometown

Hi Kaelee,

Glad you agree about the colon!

I'm not sure exactly what Hometown USA means, but it's not specific to the book. It's one of the flashes Super uses similar to Single Dad or Going Back. (My May book was a "Going Back" because the hero went back to his hometown.) Plan B: Boyfriend is the sequel to The Boyfriend's Back. (The heroes are brothers.)

On a more important topic, I've really enjoyed getting to know you and other folks here and elsewhere on the Internet. As I'm writing, I often think about things people have mentioned. "Will she think this is funny?" "Last time she really liked this...can't wait for her to see the new one." Little things like that. I'm still amazed that people are out there reading books I've written.

I have a friend on Myspace who's from my hometown, Scranton. My dad sometimes checks in on my online activities and he was asking about her. The conversation went like this:

Dad: "Who is that friend of yours on Myspace from Scranton?"
Me: "Her name is XYZ."
Dad: "How do you know her? Did she go to your high school?"
Me: "Nope. She read one of my books and liked it."
Dad: "But does she know your sister?"
Me: "Nope. She just read the book and got in touch."
Dad: "But how did she know you before that?"
Me: "Argh. You know, strangers do occasionally read my books."
Dad: "..."

The cool thing is that with the Internet, those strangers can turn into friends. :-)

Take care,
Ellen

LOL!

Sorry, just had to say that this conversation made me giggle--it *is* true that lots of strangers have turned into friends because of the internet, and a bunch because of this blog :) Thanks for continuing to write, Ellen! I'll definitely be looking for Plan B!

Thanks

Glad the conversation made you giggle. I love my dad and he is truly one of my biggest cheerleaders. We do like to joke around, though.

;-)

Dads

It sounds like you and your dad are really good friends. My dad and I were really close and there were times when those on the outside of our circle really thought we were mad at each other until we would burst out laughing. Mom would just shade her head and ignore us.

Dads

Hi Ellen,

It sounds as if you have great memories of your dad. What a wonderful gift it is when you are friends with your family members. I was just at a family wedding last night and I loved seeing how genuinely happy the cousins and aunts, etc. were to spend time with each other.

Take care!

Cute cover, Ellen! Congrats

Cute cover, Ellen! Congrats on getting the title changed, too. I like the colon better. :-)

I think I may have to work my way over and take a look at the boards at eHarlequin. I've never checked them out before, but it sounds like I'll recognize at least a few people!

Cathy

eHQ

Hi Cathy,

I love the community at eHQ. As a matter of fact, when Jeannie and Sam asked me to join Cigars, I was hesitant because I didn't want to give up any of the time I spend there. It's a great place. I hope we might see you around sometime!

Cigars was terrific, too. I'm glad I made the decision to be part of this group as well!

Take care.

Bye

Congrats on the upcoming release, Ellen. It's a lovely cover. I'll definitely have to check out your blog.

Thanks

Thanks, Jane! My previous books have all been spring and summer releases so the holiday trimmings on the cover are a nice treat.

Take care.
