Nude Oscars: Hugh Who? Who cares? by Diana Holquist
The Oscars are this weekend, and the lovely Hugh Jackman, this year's host, was quoted as saying:
"I haven't told anyone this, but we are going to do most of it naked and we're going to sing through the whole show," the affable actor joked during an interview backstage at the Kodak Theatre. "In fact, all the acceptance speeches are going to be sung. There will be some interpretive dance behind them, and I really think it will be beautiful and touching."
As some of you might know from reading my other blogs, I wrote a book called Sexiest Man Alive It's about the shyest woman in the world who comes to believe her soul mate is People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive.
Thus, I do a lot of blogs and contests for readers whenever it's time for People's yearly honor. Just in case you live in a cave, Hugh Jackman was this year's winner.
And when Hugh won, I admitted, on the Internet for all to see, that I had no idea who Hugh Jackman was.
I know. I don't know why I admitted that.
I was ridiculed and humiliated. In fact, on one blog, a group of authors took the entire month of December to educate me in the facts of sexy movie stars. (You can read the whole, embarrassing affair here.)
But I digress.
What do you think of Hugh Jackman hosting the Oscars? Do you know who he is? Who are you pulling for to win? Do you care about the Oscars? Will Hugh really be naked....?

I like Hugh, but not much for the Oscars
I rarely watch the Oscars, and I'm not much of a movie person anymore -- I used to be, but honestly, it seems like movies have just gotten really awful in the last 5-10 years (though TV seems to be improving greatly, which is maybe why we see movie actors showing up on TV...). I was looking through movies this morning, hoping to find something we could go see today, to get out and do something different, but there's just nothing out there...
But I do like Hugh, he's handsome and sexy and sweet. But I won't watch the Oscars, even for him. I haven't seen any of the movies, anyway... I think the last time I watched the Oscars and had an opinion was when The Piano was big... I hated that movie, LOL.
Sam
I hated the Piano, too...
Wow, I haven't thought about that movie in a long time. And that's really interesting about TV getting better and movies worse.
I don't watch either, so I don't know. But it's shocking how many people responding to this post haven't seen any of the movies.
Then again, I took my daughter and her friend to see Coraline. By the time we'd gotten the tickets and the snacks, we spent almost $40! Won't be doing that again for a while!
(And I liked the movie okay. But $40? Not that much!)
Oliver or Oscars...hmm
We started watching Oliver Twist on Masterpiece Theater last Sunday night with the kids, and the second half is on television at the same time as the Oscars tomorrow night. I'm really enjoying Oliver Twist, and I've never watched the Oscars, so normally this would be a no-brainer for me. And though I do love Hugh Jackman (love the scene from Van Helsing where he morphs into a werewolf and displays those impressive pecs), even he can't induce me to sit through the Oscars. HOWEVER...there is a certain actor who played a young vampire heartthrob in a recent blockbuster hit (Rob Pattinson/Twilight), and he is going to be presenting an award, and I might be enticed into watching the show if only to see him. And his hair. So there you have it, my secret obsession. My husband is thoroughly disgusted.
at least you've been educated
I usually have awards shows on but usually only as backgroud noise.
I'm usually in bed....
They're too late for me. I hope I'll catch some of Hugh on youtube!
Yay! Yes, I don't know, not really, and likely not!
Haha those are my answers, Diana! I like Hugh Jackman. I think he's great as Wolverine, and love that he can sing and dance too. He's hosted the Tony's a few times? Right? And some awards show in Australia? (Yes? No?) I've seen some clips on youtube and they were vastly entertaining. I like that he can be on the big screen, and take center stage in a musical on Broadway. That's versatility.
However, I rarely watch movies, like Samantha said - I haven't seen any up for awards (er, other than Wall-E?). I'm completely non invested in the oscars - even less this year than other years. But... I might leave it on in the background to see the red carpet, etc, while I do other stuff.
Has anyone seen the movies nominated?
I haven't seen a single one nominated for best picture. Geez....guess I better get out more...
Like Hugh, usually pass on Oscar
I'm a big Hugh fan and was happy when I heard about the SMA title. If I watch any of the Academy Awards show it will be to see him.
I don't go to many movies anymore and the ones selected for awards programs too often are real downers. There is enough of that in real life so I'll take a pass, even when these deemed "Oscar-worthy" shows come on HBO or network TV.
I've become the same way with book selections. Why would I choose a book to read that will depress me more than what's in the news? My daughter is taking AP Literature this year and many of the books she reads (and loves) for that class sound like excellent reading material, but I tend to read for entertainment these days, not enlightenment. I have Bible study for that -- and a women's group I've been a part of generally does a book study at some point in the year, so I'll save the deep thinking for those activities.
Not to offend any of the authors here, that's definitely not my intention. I just have no interest in reading the story of someone pulling their life out of depravity or abuse when I can read a story that celebrates love and the growth of relationships. Much more my style these days.
No offense taken, Betty.
We all know what Happily Ever After is about. That's romance's promise to readers. As the Bible says, there's a time to get deep and a time to enjoy...
It does say that? Right? Well, I mean, not exactly in those words...

Welcome!
You wanna be prez?
Wolverine
Yummy! Wild hair and all.
I'm interested in the Oscars but the speeches bore me to tears ((snore)). I usually watch the entertainment shows for snippets on what happened.
And sadly - I don't even know who is nominated!!
I'll probably catch the opening to see Hugh than either turn the channel or turn the volume down and read a book.
Words to warm an author's heart....
"I'll probably catch the opening to see Hugh than either turn the channel or turn the volume down and read a book."
Ah, there is hope in the world yet...
hugh! yummers
I rarely watch the oscars anymore. I remember watching an award show a year or two ago, and was excited to see what good looking actor was with what pretty lady. i was, however not ready to see vigo mretenson give a full on liplock to the guy sitting ext to him. To this day i cannot watch lord of the rings any more, yick!
but for hugh i may watch, he's too cute.
I absolutley loved him as wolverine, that wild animal magnetism was very cool. And hey that admantium (SP??) was all over his body, covering all his bones and such. Do you think they meant everything was covered with that?? LOL couldnt help it.
Oscars? eh
Hugh, oh yeah!
later ladies
jody lynn
Weirdly...
I do like seeing the fashion recaps in the morning. And I am so not into fashion, as everyone knows, but I do enjoy just seeing what people wore, whether ridiculous or pretty. Hopefully not naked. ;) I don't think that would necessarily be better... LOL
Sam
The other one
I'm looking forward to is Mickey Rourke
Well...
thumbs up to Hugh (did you say naked Hugh?) but I tend to pass on the Oscars although like Sam, I enjoy looking at photo recaps of the gowns afterwards :) I usually don't watch many movies, so I have no idea who/what's up for what, and I'll probably be reading a book instead ;) (My TBR *is* huge, after all...)
Hugh who?

I don't follow 'People's list, but I have long liked Mr.Jackman because he seems like such an approachable, likeable guy. Of course it doesn't hurt that he's easy to look at. But my introduction to him was as Wolverine, where he spends the whole time sour and frowning and it seems so out-of-character to his true nature.
He was funny and charming last night, and I think every girl watching wanted to be Anne Hathaway, plucked from her seat and transported up onto the stage in his flawlessly tuxedoed arms.
