Going on TV

Diana Holquist's picture

Sorry I'm late posting this blog, but I was on television today. Ho-hum. No big deal....

HA! Who am I kidding? It was the most fun I've had in ages. Well, maybe not fun, exactly. Let's just say, I'm relieved it's over. Here's what happened...

I arrived at the local Philadelphia NBC station at the appointed time. (Okay, I was 20 minutes early and had to sit in the car a bit. Hey, I was anxious.)

I was properly attired. (Except that they told me not to put on make-up. When I got there, another "guest" was in FULL make-up. She said, "Oh, I'd NEVER let anyone else do my make-up. And sometimes they run late, and they can't make you up at all." Oooops...)

I was calm and collected. (...while I frantically tried to look cool while slathering myself with make-up in a tiny mirror in the "green room.)

Soon, it was my turn to go on. (OH MY GOD SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!)

I had an thrilling and informative interview with the host. ( I don't remember a single thing I said. Please, God, tell me I didn't curse.)

I went home to watch myself with my lovely, supportive family. (My son pointed out that my bra strap had been showing the whole time.)

Have you ever been on TV? Do you ever buy books because you've seen authors on TV? Can you bring me a tall, stiff drink?

I'll post the link as soon as it's up. I

Congratulations!

You've conquered the TV world and Book world. What's next? Major metropolitan newspaper? The big screen? Maybe an article in the New Yorker?

Oh, la! As if there's anything left to do...

All else just pales in comparison to my newfound celebrity. (When it was over, I asked the producer, "So, ah, do I just go now?" She very politely said something to the effect of, "Yes. Buh-bye.")

Exciting!

Diana, please do post it! I bet you were fantastic. This was about your books, I assume?

I have never been on TV, though we have had news crews to the house a few times b/c Mike gets interviewed as a "local expert" any time any computer virus or large scale techno attack hits. So I get a kick out of watching. Hard to keep the dogs quiet, LOL.

Sam

You need to stack your books around...

...so that your husband just happens to be filmed in front of piles and piles of Samantha Hunter books.

I will post it as soon as I get it. I hope it'll be up by tomorrow.

Cool

Wow, it must have been fun, but nerve-wracking. I've never been on TV. I have seen authors appear on "The Daily Show" and have checked out their books.

Y'know...

...doing the segment was easy. Waiting to watch it at home later, I truly felt ill. But it did seem to go okay. At least, they all clapped (live audience...).

If I had to go on the Daily Show, I'd definitely faint.

Oh sure...

...the second I leave your house for Ithaca, you invite the TV news over. ;-)

Congrats!! What a coup to be invited on TV. Word of your genius is spreading far and wide!

I was on TV twice--once to dance to "Sunshine on My Shoulder" with my ballet school in 2nd grade (we were on "Magic Window"--anyone from NE PA remember that show?), and once to read an original poem written for Catholic Schools Week in 7th grade. It was an acrostic, using the word Catholic as the base. (Actually, maybe I danced on "Magic Garden." I can't remember. Maybe it was neither. It was a local public TV show...hmm.)

I was such an artistic child. HA.

I want to see your video, Diana!! Send us a link!

I want that link...

...to see you in tights. I wore a tutu for my segment, too! (Just kidding...)

Cool! I bet you were

Cool! I bet you were spectacular, bra strap and all. In fact, that's probably what makes you approachable. I don't know that I'd be brave enough to do television. My dad's been on the news a couple of times (in a good way) and I've been in brief clips (in a good way) but I think I would be, shall we say, not exactly relaxed if the spotlight was on me?

Way to go, Diana.

Spotlight...well, not exactly...

I was on right after Mama Joy, the local winner of a mom-cooks-at-home contest and before a lady who ran a website just about buying gifts for aunts. But someone in the live audience grabbed me on the way out and said a very heartfelt thanks for the free books I gave away, so I made someone happy.

A TV star!

And how did your make-up look? I bet you looked fine bra strap and all, and didn't curse. If you did, they were probably on a 5 second delay and could have bleeped you!

Perfect!

The make-up artist did me up much better than I could have done myself. And I'm pretty sure I didn't curse. I hope....

Looking forward to seeing it

appartly I was on tv (I never saw myself but someone else did and camera crew from news station filmed) The news channel was doing a segment on the growth of the Horticurlture business in the Niagara area and at the time they had just completed the new college where the horticulture classes I was taking were being moved to so the school was in the story. So guess was on tv. No make-up, elbow deep in dirt, grubby clothes, haphhazard ponytail. I don't know which I'd prefer the segment where you can worry and bite nails ahead of time or a spur of the moment tv spot
