Things I Hate To Do...

Dee Tenorio's picture

We've all got them. Chores that we drag our heels on. I've spent a lot of time this year figuring out how to fit in my cleaning with my day jobs and my kids. As you might have guessed, there were some things I didn't feel terribly compelled to keep on the list of daily chores. Cleaning my patio is the big one. I know if I did it regularly, it'd be easier. Less scary. But really now... Do you really expect me to risk my life so often?

I'll explain...

First off, it's summer, and if there's one place I'm gonna avoid like a hot plate, it's my back porch. I don't have a yard, but there is this rather nice patio thing off my living room. Nice that is, except for "The Fern".

I used to call it The Thing, but a planty neighbor informed me, nope, it's a fern.

But, ferns are nice, soft, beautiful plants. The Thing is a freakish, brackish, thorned monster.

Nope...it's a fern.

It grows like the monsters in your dream, reaching out from under your bed. In my case, the Fern grows out from under the wall that encases my patio. I cut it back, but in two weeks, it seems to grow two or three feet. I chop it. It comes back, winding through patio items with ease. This last time it had berries! Can you believe it? It's getting healthier!

There's also a tree that sheds tiny little leaves all year long. I end up with a thick carpet of red, brown and green, which houses any number of spiders, gnats, ants and in the summer...flies.

Can you see why I don't like it outside?

When I go out there, it's a lot like legend of Zelda--I'm armed with a blade (my machete), trusty boots, and a plan for total deforestation. Only, I don't get potions and no truty fairy comes running to save me from giant scary bugs. There is a lot of screaming though.

So what chore do you hate above all others? Why? Are you ever able to pass the buck?

Yikes

Sympathies on The Fern... the chore I have the most trouble with and dislike more than others is decluttering--it's so incredibly painful that I keep putting it off, but that's not making it go away. I also dislike cleaning bathrooms, but upping the frequency on that actually helps...

vacuuming the stairs! I HATE

vacuuming the stairs! I HATE IT!!!!!!!

Consequently, I'd rather pay my kids to do it.

Oh Dee, too funny about The

Oh Dee, too funny about The Thing. Especially the part where it likes to get cut back. It's a masochistic Thing.

Chores I hate to do? Where do I begin? If I had to choose one, it would be sorting through the big piles of stuff that end up on my kitchen table and trying to find new homes for everything, where I can find it if I need it, that won't just make new piles elsewhere.

I hate mopping the floor,

I hate mopping the floor, cause it makes my back hurt.
There is no way I can pass the buck. My husband would probably make it more of a mess.

Too Funny!

Dee, hugs on the monstrous fern-thing! I don't blame you for not wanting to go outside! For me, my most hated chore is vacuuming, although maybe if I ever get a new machine, I'll like it again. Right now, the main part of the vacuum doesn't work, but the hose does. So I've been vacuuming my carpets with a one-inch tube that's so short I have to bend over (ha!).

Yeah, One Inch of hose...

is always terribly disappointing.

Hee hee, sorry, couldn't resist!

Laughing my butt off, Dee!

Laughing my butt off, Dee! Thanks!

weeding...

We have these hideous, awful, thorny things that are SO stubborn. They keep growing back up and returning, like the children of the corn ;-). I hate them. they hate me. We battle it out every summer.

You sure...

it's not the Thing I have in my patio? That thing has thorns too. Someone called it Asparagus Fern. Something like that. I have much more colorful names, esp when it pokes me. :)

The only thing...

I really hate is cleaning the cat litter, which, thankfully, I never have to do except when Mike's out of town. That's his little corner of the world. He does the garbage every week, too, so I am spared that. Other than that, there's not much I won't do. :) We used to stall over who had to mow the lawn, but now we pay some young guy to do it, and we call him our "yard elf." :) Well worth it, especially if you saw our yard.

Have you seen those

automatic kitty litter cleaner things? Those things trip me out. I've dealt with so many diapers over the years that my sense of smell is seriously wiped out. But I'd probably still get the automatic, lol.

Had one, it broke within a year

So not worth the money. And you still have to clean them out, in fact, you have to empty the bag that catches everything more often. I normally just ignore it since he does it, and then feel very sorry for myself when Mike is out of town and I have to do it. :)
