A Good Day For A Break
I know most people really look forward to having a vacation. Going restful places and "recharging"...somehow. Which usually sounds good, theoretically. But I'm a fairly backwards gal and truth is, a restful place generally makes me twitchy. I'm incapable of sitting or laying still without doing SOME thing. I usually fall asleep within minutes.
Basically, I suck at resting.
But something unusual happened yesterday. I found an email from a friend of mine that I'd lost track of a few years ago. Her life got busy and we drifted apart, which was sad, but...well, that's just the way life is sometimes. So, I thought, what the heck, I'll give it another shot and give her a call. Worst case scenario, I'll leave a message and that'll be that.
Only...she answered.
Turned out, she was back in town. And she was free! I'd just finished work and paid some bills and was about to settle in to write my daily word count but hey, this was a chance to have her over. All I'd have to do was clean the house a little (lot) and spend a few hours ignoring my manuscript.
I really expected to be twitching. Especially as the book is on it's back legs and this close to being done. Usually, I won't let a speeding bullet get in my way at this stage of a novel. And yet, it was shockingly easy to shut the computer, clean the house and the kids (two of whom she hadn't ever met) and not look back.
We talked for hours, played with the kids, learned about the glory of night-vision from my son, had dinner with my husband (of course I didn't cook, I LIKE her!) and indulged our shared Idol fanaticism. And when all was put away, my friend vowing that we wouldn't slip off again, we let her drive off into the night and the funniest thing happened.
I still wasn't twitchy.
Huh. Guess it was just a good day for a break. How about you? Have you had a good day this week? Share!

Such a lovely story!
Isn't it funny how when we let it all go, it's always (always!) worth it? And I so hear you--it's so hard to let go.
Sounds like you had a lovely time.
I'll be over next week.

Glad you enjoyed your day!
I love those kinds of breaks -- I love to take long lunches with friends, have company, go out to dinner. I think we need it for sanity. So far this week has been one just trying to get work done, but I'm looking forward to Friday and Saturday, making Valentine's cookies on Friday, and having my family over to dinner for Valentine's evening. That will be fun.
I am not always so good at staying still, either. Mike and I had some struggles because on a vacation, I would want to go go go, and he would want to rest, and I would be bored, but after all these years we've worked it out so we can do both, and for me it depends a lot on where I am. I can sit on a beach with a book for hours. Just watching people and sitting in the sun is great, listening to the water. But in a city, I want to move, to do things....
I think it's why I don't read a lot during the day, even when I have time, I tend to be up and doing something, sewing, etc.

hello Dee
Im glad you took the time to sit abck and enjoy getting to know your friend again. it's something more of use need to do inour lives. friends are invaluable. Me i have no problem resting, it's getting me up and started that's the problem.
i am a night owl, never in bed before midnight and i have a rough time getting up at 6.30 every morning to get my little boy up and ready for school.
I had a great day yesterday, it was my 41st birthday and my mother and sister took me out ofr breakfast at IHOP> loved it, the food was good, but the company was so much better. we ate, drank gallons of coffee and had a very nice time shopping afterwards. Espeically when the three amigos as we like to call ourselves bough matching silly hats that everyone got a good giggle out of. then i came home to cards from husband and Mil, and a lovely new bright red coffee cup. Hubby knows how i am about coffee cups. I still have one from the first rwa conference i attended that says "Warning, what you do may end up in my books." i used to have the shirt that matched and got alot of strange looks wearing that one.
everyone have a good day.
happy writing
jody
I can't even...
sit and watch my favorite tv shows without doing something else. So we usually watch while we eat dinner. (I LOVE my DVR). Or I'm writing or something. I'm not hyper, I just can't sit still, lol.
Of course, now I'm going to be REALLY nuts to finish book.
Happy B-Day Jody Lynn! I remember cups and shirts like that. Midnight Madness has some of the funnest stuff. I still have a mouse pad with room for a picture in the middle that has writing tips and conversions all over it. And...you know what, I haven't seen my RWA shirts in a while, come to think of it. I'll have to find them, lol!
