Escaping The Cave!
You never expect it to happen. Some books drive on and on and on...and on. You want them to be done. You want them to be right. But really, you just want the damn thing to be over.
And then all of a sudden, it is.
You blink, as if you'd suddenly come out of the dark into the sun. You rub at that knot in the back of your neck because it hurts to lift your head. You stand up. No, really. You stand up. Creaks abound, but you're on your feet. You print. You rubberband and in ten seconds, you are going to escape the cave.
If you can fit the bloody manuscript in the envelope.
Then finally, it's done. You're free! You're free!
Now what are you going to do?
Sadly, crowds don't flow into your office/writing area. Confetti doesn't rain down from the ceiling. No one throws an icy bucket of gatorade over your head. (And if they did, they'd die shortly afterward.) No rosy-cheeked, half-frozen sportscaster is asking you if you're going to Disneyland. It's just you, an envelope and the peaceful sounds of completion. It's kind of like growing an inch and discovering no one's throwing you a party.
Which means we writers needs to throw ourselves a party. You're out. You're free. What are you going to do? Or if you don't write, share your favorite rewards for a job well done!

Not much for celebrations...
So far I haven't done much to celebrate finishing a book, but I do treat myself in small ways along the way. When I sell for the first time, though...I'm getting a tattoo. Don't tell my husband, LOL. My plan is to ask for a motorcycle and "settle" for a tattoo .

I have a picture of a lotus blooming in a pond I'd like to have done on my wrist. I thought about having hubby's name tattooed across my shoulders, but then I'd probably end up with the motorcycle, LOL. Or divorced.

Dee, I know what books you're talking about, but do you want to share with everyone? (I'm nagging because I know they are really great books!)
It is a wonderful feeling, isn't it? I can only remember vaguely at this point, it's been a while since I've felt it, LOL. But I know it's good... I usually just celebrate by enjoying the free time and banging around for a few days until the next idea starts... :)

Well, it's been a LONG journey to get these Revs in. I subbed the books and the editor loved them--a series of books about twin brothers who cause each other a LOT trouble--but there was a lot of work to be done so the revisions were requested. Insert one very difficult pregnancy and two very loud babies and three book contracts to another publisher that needed fulfilling. So, a year after the revisions were requested, Book 1 went back to the ed. And now, three months later, Book 2 with all it's necessary rewrites (coughhalfthebookcough) is going in as well. Thankfully, the ed is extremely understanding and she allowed me to take the time needed.
So, now the wait--and the book imposed amnesia--begins. :)
Well, that and another set of edits on another book and a gangload of proposals to get out. This writer gig never quits, lol. Rather like that about it. :)

I don't write but if I get something done I am proud of or just feel like celebrating in general I tend to shop..nothing says "YIPPEE!!" like a new pair of shoes:) Although Baskin Robbins is good too..for me it is their World Class Chocolate..Yummmmmm.

that's usually how my hubby celebrates, too. I can never justify paying for the heels I want. I just love stilettoes and for some reason, those always cost the most. Sigh...but fun to try on!!
I love that movie, "In Her Shoes", just for the closet!

Congratulations on finishing, Dee! Baskins sounds like a great reward. When I'm done with a story, I start sewing. Or I attempt to organize the basement (again). I love having a project, and I love finishing them so I can start the next one. Isn't it funny how the next always beckons?
I'm going to have to amend...
I finally realized that my house needs cleaning. You gotta love the cave for one thing, an unclean house is much easier to overlook. :)

Dee i'm not a writer but I know with other stuff, like with my blood work being good, my hubby may take me to a breakfast or something, so it should be celebrated in way you can. Ice cream is good!

Yay, Dee! How exciting to have it in the bag (envelope, whatever...) Ice cream is a fabulous way to celebrate! I realize that I tend to celebrate with food--sushi's my favorite :) If I had taste, shoes would be a fun way to celebrate, too ;)
