Welcome Debut Author Cynthia Eden!
What’s your pleasure?
Hi, everyone! Wow—it’s a pleasure to be back at Love is an Exploding Cigar! (Thanks for having me, ladies!)
Whenever I walk onto the romance aisle at my local bookstore, I always experience the same overwhelmingly giddy sensation that I feel when I walk into my neighborhood Baskin Robbins ice cream shop. J When I walk into the ice cream shop, I see so many tempting flavors…chocolate, vanilla bean, rocky road. And when I stroll down the romance aisle, the temptation is often even greater…sexy historicals, dark paranormals, funny contemporaries…
Ah, so many choices. So many reading pleasures.
While I do have many romance books that I like to sample (the way I like to sample different ice creams), I always have one “stand-by” sub-genre that draws me in every time. My stand-by? Paranormal romance. I can’t help it. I write paranormals, read paranormals every chance I get, and when I go to the bookstore—BAM, I’m craning my neck looking for those titles.
Generally, I do like darker paranormals. I like vampire stories. Shifter stories—oh, yes, love them! And right now, I’m also loving demon stories. My recent release, Midnight Sins, is a demon story. My heroine, Cara Maloan, is a succubus. She’s also a woman suspected in a series of murders. (Life is very much not perfect for her!) Lucky for Cara, the lead detective on this particular investigation is a guy who won’t stop until he finds the truth…and he also happens to be one sexy cop. J
Now that I’ve written my demon story, I find myself searching for other demon reads. I currently have what I call my demon stack (that’s my TBR pile). Can’t wait to get cracking on those!
So, yes, for me, a paranormal romance is like my chocolate ice cream. Paranormals are the ones I crave, the ones that I turn to when I want to relax or get a pick-me-up. But, occasionally, I do want to try something new. A new bit of flavor…
The new flavor I plan to try over the holidays? Regency romances.
But what about you? When it comes to reading, what’s your pleasure? And is there a new flavor that you’d like to try soon? Leave me a comment, and you could win an autographed copy of Midnight Sins Please note: You must be registered at Cigars in order to be eligible to win.
Happy holidays, everyone!
Best wishes,
Cynthia Eden

Thank you!
Thanks so much for having me here today! :-)

Cynthia, you early bird!
You even beat me to the first post! LOL
Welcome and so happy to have you here. Love the connection between books and ice cream, though for me maybe it would be a fabric shop, since I am lactose intolerant! LOL
I always love a series romance, can't stay away from those, and for me, paranormal mystery/urban fantasy and some general mystery, like Sue Grafton, are my steady flavors. Speaking of demon stories, have you read Richelle Mead? She's my favorite new author these days, para mystery with romantic subplots. I'm not sure what new flavors I might try... I think I am more experimental with food and fabric than I am with my reading... I have to think on that. :)
Thanks for being here today -- love the cover...
Sam
Early...that's me!
LOL, Sam--I've got a two year old (very soon to be a three-year old) and he makes sure I'm always up early. :-)
I've heard great things about Richelle Mead's work--and if Santa brings me the gift card I'm hoping for, she'll definitely be one of my holiday buys!
And, thanks, again, for having me as a guest blogger!

paranormal
I've mostly gone for passion filled reads like harlequins Desires and Presents gone to hotter reads like Blaze and Spic and mellower down home books like American Romance and Superromance and the like. This year I tried more paranormals.
For me it's not browsing in a bricks and mortar bookstore it's online. I spend hours browsing ebook stores like fictionwise(I have a 9 page wishlist there) and Books on Board(there I only have 4 books on wishlist but only discovered the place about a month ago) or eharlequin
paranormal
Hi, Christa!
Oh, Desires and Presents are definitely pleasures for me. They're fast, fun reads--love them. I'm also finding that I have a growing addiction to the ebook sites, too. It's that instant gratification that gets me. I see a title. I click it--it's mine.

Hi Cynthia!
Hi Cynthia. I read all kinds of romance novels. I started my romance reading journey with Harlequin Presents and Silhouette Desires. Then, I began reading historicals. Now, I have added paranormals and urban fantasy.
Hi, Crystal!
Hi, Crystal! The very first book I ever read was a Harlequin Romance. After that, I couldn't stop reading romances. And when it comes to paranormals--I can hardly ever say no!

my favorite subject!
I read all over the spectrum -- all subgenres of romance, mystery, commercial fiction. Right now I'm reading a mainstream fiction, The Wedding Officer. I already read MIDNIGHT SINS and loved it!
Thanks!
Thank you, Edie! You know I can't wait to read your book! Being a crazy paranormal lover, well, Dead People is going to be perfect for me.

LOL!
You *are* an early bird, Cynthia! My youngest is slightly older than yours and I totally understand having a built-in family alarm clock. Someday I'm going to sleep in again, really! (Not that I'm productive early in the morning, just up! ;))
As for reading, I'm a little all over the map these days, too. I started out as a contemporaries-only, but a few years ago, I tried Julia Quinn and that opened up a whole world of historicals. Since then I've tried westerns, paranormal (vamps, shifters, and other kinds--anything except too scary!)... there are so many books, and not enough time! :)
And new pleasures? I've recently heard several mentions of something called steampunk--don't know anything about it, but I'll probably try that sometime, too!
LOL
Fedora, when I hear the patter of those little feet, I know it's time to wake--even thought its always still pitch black outside. Sigh.
Ohhh...steampunk? I've heard about that, too--and want to give it a try! Maybe we'll both experiment!

Hi Cynthia!
Nice to be able to chat with you again. I have to say my first, choice is dark paranormal romance (like you). However, I also like erotic romance suspence, and erotic contemporary.
I've been trying to "step outside my box", a little lately and add in some historical. But always return to the sub-genre's I previously mentioned.
There are so many wonderful stories out there told by amazing voices. I just keep adding to my TBR which makes for a variety of reading to choose from.
Thank you Cynthia, great post and questions. This blog is wonderful, a new find for me.
All the best for the festive season.
Hi, Lea!
Hi, Lea!
Thanks for stopping by--and I'm glad you like this blog. Love is an Exploding Cigar is a fabulous place--the ladies here always have great posts up!
I like to step outside my box, too. But, like you, I'll always return to my first loves. :-)

Historicals
I read a little of everything, kind of switch around a lot. Historicals and suspense are my favorites. But also love a good mystery.
Historicals
I've been participating in a romance book club--each month we pick a different sub-genre to spotlight. A few months ago, we focused on historical--totally made me want to read more historical romances!

Hey Cynthia
Hi Cynthia,
Congrats on the new release. I, too, like darker paranormals. I got interested in paranormals after reading Heather Graham's ghost stories and gradually moved on to vampires and shapeshifters. I would like to give urban fantasy a try. I read some blogs about the difference between paranormal and urban fantasy, but I'm still not sure the difference.
Hey, Jane!
Thank you, Jane! I'm also a big fan of Heather Graham's work. Love those dark stories!

My tastes are always changing
I've always been a big fan of both categories and paranormals. But this year I've read a few historicals (I don't know the time period but I'm finishing up Kathryn Smith's Brotherhood of the Blood series right now which take place in 1899). And I find I'm really enjoying them.
I'd always thought of the books with the Dukes and Duchesses, etc, somewhat canned. But I've been more than pleasantly surprised.
And when you get a historical paranormal, what a treat!

Historical Paranormals
Ani, I agree! I love historical paranormals! When I read historicals, I always pick up those with paranormal elements. Love 'em.

I love paranoramals, scifi,
I love paranoramals, scifi, fantasy, and an occasional romantic suspense/thriller book. Escpecially one that I don't get the bad guy right or one that acutally scares me which is hard.
Getting the bad guy
Pamk,
I really like it when I can't guess the villain within the first few pages of a book--or the first five minutes of a movie. I used to drive my husband crazy because we'd go in a theater, and, by the time the opening scene was done, I'd whisper and tell him what I thought would happen at the end. Bad habit, I know. I finally stopped--finally. :-)

Hi Cynthia!
I hopscotch from one genre to another depending on my mood. However, I am always pulled back to dark paranormal romance. I loved your post!
Wishing you and your family a Happy Holiday Season!

Hmmm
You know, I like a lot of genres. Love them, really. I like contemporaries, historicals, paranormals, all of it. Shifters, vampires, werewolves - demons, (the new trend of angels) - I'm good with it all. Dukes, SEALs - what I read slightly less of would be the suspense novels - though a few of my favorite authors do write in that genre. And/or scifi. Really, I'm just looking for a good romance.
Although - I've recently been buying up "kid classics" - a bunch of the Newberry books etc I read as a kid.
Kid Classics
I've been buying those classics, too! Hoping my niece will take an interest. We'll see what happens! :-)
Like you, when it comes to books that I enjoy--at the core, I'm looking for a good romance, too.

Hi Cynthia, it's great to have you here. My first passion is paranormal romance. I am still hooked and the majority of the books on my keeper shelf are all in this genre.

Hi Cynthia. I'll read most
Hi Cynthia. I'll read most genres, but mainly my two favorites, historical and paranormals, and I'd love to see more combo stories for the two. I'm starting to read more fantasy now and think I'm going to like the new steam punk we're hearing about. I don't think I'll ever tire of the paranormals, so many authors with different spins.

Steampunk
Hi, Pam! I'm with you on the combo--I love historical/paranormal combinations. And I keep hearing so much about steampunk--going to have to try some books!

Hi Cynthia! I'm reading
Hi Cynthia! I'm reading Todd's story now and saw you were here and had to shout out a hello! This is just so awesome! So hard to put MIDNIGHT SINS down!! You're in a treat whoever wins, but if not, this is one that will make your weekend worthwhile to get and read this weekend! Gosh, I don't want it to end! Cynthia, I love what you do with yours, have a taste of many types of supernaturals in your books. I remember the first book and smiling with scenes with the vamp! And then the mystery with the other character. I'm trying not to give the story away for the others, but I think you made it so unique with them existing among each other and having their own rules to exist in each others world! If you do go towards one supernatural, I'd think of the Succubus, it was something that I learned more of with your book not having read much of that before.
Thank you

reading pleasures
Hello, Cynthia! Wanted to give a shout out to my chaptermate(GCRWA #125)! I read across genre lines also, depending on my mood, but my absolute favorite is romantic suspense. Heather Graham, Brenda Novak, Sandra Brown. I'm saving my copy of Midnight Sins for over the holiday break when I won't be interrupted by having to deal with the day job.
