The Joy of Sexy Anthologies

Ellora’s Cavemen: Seasons of Seduction III releases Sept. 23 in both print and ebook, and I’m celebrating having a new title in print by sharing my love of anthologies. But first a little history. Back in 2004, when I vowed to my writer’s group that I would sell that year, Love Spell in Ellora’s Cavemen: Legendary Tails II was the 4th of my vow-fulfilling sales. (Turns out I overshot the goal.) Legendary Tails II was my first book in bookstores, the first time that front display table in Borders had a book with my name on it. I didn’t get to see this in person because I was busy having a baby, but still. A huge achievement.

That sale was especially meaningful to me because the Cavemen anthologies are the best of EC. The editors select the stories that best represent Ellora’s Cave with a range of voices, styles and subgenres, and six authors are chosen for each year’s four volumes. ec_sos3_msr.jpg I was thrilled to be chosen for the anthology in my first year of publication, and I’m delighted that I Was An Alien’s Love Slave was chosen the second time I put my name in the hat. (I missed shooting for a spot in 2006 because the deadline and the new baby didn’t play well together.)

So why do I love sexy anthologies? They’re the perfect fantasy break. Just the right size to squeeze in between tasks, not so long I can’t finish them in one sitting. I get to try out new authors and find new must-buys. And anthologies are wonderful for variety. A taste of paranormal, contemporary, light, angst-driven, I can indulge my mood for the moment whatever that might be and wherever that it take me. And a steamy fantasy break is a world away from dishes, laundry, edits, and clamoring kids who need help finding their socks.

Seasons of Seduction III is a wonderful collection with a sexy story for every taste, from contemporary to futuristic. You can seduce a pirate at a Halloween party, meet a panther who brings out the animal in you, find erotic adventure and out of this world romance as an alien abductee, experience the healing power of love in the face of loss, meet an unusual sculptor, or fall for a visiting dignitary who’s out of your league.

Do you love anthologies? If not, why not? Tell me what you love or hate about them in the comments, and you’ll get your name in the drawing for an ebook copy of Seasons of Seduction III. If you’re not a fan of anthologies, these six steamy tales might change your mind!

Hi Charlene.

Hi Charlene. I do like anthologies. You get a varied set of stories all in one book. Great cover for the anthology. He is hot.

He is a hot cowboy, isn't he?

And I love his tattooes. *g*

hi

I do like them usually. Sometimes I love a short story and being able to read many authors that I might not otherwise try. It's a great way to find new favorites.
Ashley

Me, too!

I've found so many new favorites by trying new-to-me authors in anthologies.

I LOVE ANTHOLOGIES!!

And I'm lusting over your cowboy, too!

AHEM! Back to topic.

I love being able to pick up a short little story that's complete when I don't have much time.

I love being introduced to new to me authors through anthologies.

I love seeing what some of my favourite authors do in the shortened format.

What's funny though is I'll sometimes sit down with an anthology with the idea that I'm just going to read one or two of the stories and usually read the whole thing straight through!

I like both the anthologies where there is a common theme (a holiday maybe) or where all of the stories connect in some way.

I just love anthologies!

ani

Mmm. Cowboy lust.

Go ahead, he won't mind. *g*

It is fun to see what an author can do in a shorter format, isn't it? As a writer, I find it a very fun length to experiment with.

You people love me;)

I just have to say, that whoever does the covers, loves me. You know I have serious cowboy love and I've been seeing lots of covers that make me drool. He's a naughty cowboy, isn't he?!?!? lol

To answer the question, I like them because they are usually quick reads and a way to try new authors. I do tend to grab them faster, if I see an author I like though. Well this book will be a musy have for me. Can't pass that guy up:0

Good point!

I usually buy an anthology for one particular author, too. And then I discover new ones.

LOL, he is hard to pass up, isn't he?

Love them

Sometimes I just don't have time to read a full blown book, but good anthologies usually hit the spot--short, sweet/smart/funny/sexy... Perfect for the short time I have before someone wakes up/needs to be transported to their next activity/dinner needs to be made/consumed/cleaned up... This one sounds great--will have to put it on my wishlist!

Yes!

I love being able to read a whole story in a little chunk of time when I'm too busy to read a whole book. (I hate having to put something down before I reach the end!)

I like this...

I really like the variety of the stories you described -- I don't read too many anthologies, since usually they are themed and I only pick them up if the theme appeals to me, but I think this way of coming at an anthology, where they have a lot of different kinds of stories, is really appealing and clever!

Not to mention the title I Was an Alien's Love Slave just kills me... love it.

I'll definitely pick up a copy. :)

Sam

Hey, Sam!

Don't you love that title? It's from a tabloid headline. I thought it was so hysterical, I couldn't get over it. And then I had to write a story to go with it. *ggg* Hope you enjoy the anthology, Sam!

Hi Charlene

I love anthologies. You get a mix of stories. I also like the ones that have a connected story or theme. Looking forward to reading this one. I also love the cover! lol

Hi Amy

A mix of stories is always a plus, and I can't tell you how many themed anthologies I have. Holiday themes, Bad Boys (there's a whole lotta Brava on my shelves) the first Blaze anthology. Fun! You can always find a theme for any mood. *g*

I love Anthologies!!! I am

I love Anthologies!!! I am one of those people who can't put a book down once I start it...the shorter stories in Anthologies give me the opportunity to get things done in between stories:)

You said it!

I try not to start a long book until I've got a lot of free time because I know I won't want to stop. Anthologies are just the right sized reads for the busy person in search of a story fix.

Anthologies

I love them because its a great way to try out a bunch of new authors and learn their writing style and see if it works for you

Yep, so many voices, so many styles!

I discovered Loretta Chase from an anthology, along with many other of my auto-buys. I really am a voice person. The blurb might grab me the first time but it's the voice that'll bring me back to buy the next one.

I love atnhologies. They are

I love atnhologies. They are a great way to find new authors.

I especially like this anthology. *g* I'm honored to have a story alongside such fabulous writers.

Hi NJ!

I especially like this anthology, too. Isn't it about time we were in one together?

Anthologies

I love anthologies. I am reading one right now in fact. They are a great way to try out new authors and see if you like their writing style. I love the variety in the stories you find. There is usually somthing for everyone.

Variety is always fun

You never know what'll strike your mood!

anthologies

I am pretty particular about my anthology selections, I want to enjoy more than one or two stories, and found that Ellora's Cave consistently puts together great authors and stories that definitely work for me.

I agree, Cathy

EC does put together good anthologies!

I love anthologies. They are

I love anthologies. They are a great way to take a short break and to discover new authors.
Your cover is Hot!

That cowboy is eye-catching!

I agree, it's a smokin' cover. ; )

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

I just recently read my first!!! I was introduced to them via the Secrets series and I have picked up some others including the Bad Boys books and am hooked. Just perfect for a quick pick-me up. I really put off reading them because I always thought there could be no substance in such a short story but I was soooo wrong.

Pam

Oooh, Secrets and Bad Boys

You really can't go wrong with either. Brava and Red Sage have done a terrific job of building those anthology brands with consistently excellent quality and a wide range of styles.

Anthologies

Charli..I LOVE anthologies!! They're just the right length to get a quick read in at the Dr.'s office, or when I have to go to bed early but need my fix...or when I'm just in the mood to read about something in particular, like Christmas or Halloween to get me in the mood. I sometimes buy them for one particular author~~that's how I discovered Susan Sizemore~~but just as often for what they're about. I love a great short story!!

Hi Mimmi!

Holiday anthologies are a lot of fun. I don't think I've ever passed up a Christmas anthology, especially.

And the winner is...

Fedora! You've won a download of Ellora's Cavemen Seasons of Seduction III in your choice of format. Please email me (charlene AT charleneteglia DOT com) to let me know if you'd prefer HTML, PDF, etc.

Thanks to everybody who came out to chat about anthologies! I'm glad I'm not alone in my love of a short reading break that I can finish in one sitting.

Big congrats Fedora

Bet you will love the book

Woo Hoo!!

Congratulations, Fedora! You go, girl!

ani

Yippee!

Thank you SO much! I can't wait! :)

Anthologies

I like reading these I have a chance to read different stories by several authors.

Me, too

And you never know what you'll discover that way.

I like anthologies because

I like anthologies because it gives me a chance to try "new to me" authors, as well as, I can easily finish a story and put the book down. Whereas, a normal novel, I get irritated when I have to put it down to do whatever needs doing. I want to finish my stories and not have to wait to see what is going to happen!

~Wendy

Awful isn't it?

Those pesky interruptions when you're not finished reading!

Hi Charli

I really like anthologies, because of the variety of books that you can find in them

Hi Danny!

I have a pretty hefty collection of anthologies on my shelves. And more on my Wish List, too. *g*

Anthologies

I enjoyed your post.

I like anthologies because sometimes you want a quick read that you can finish in one sitting. I especially like anthologies with stories written by several different authors. That way if there is an author you haven't read before, you can see whether you like their style of writing and look for more of their work.

Hi Cheryl

Glad you enjoyed the post. I had fun guesting here at Cigars again!
