A Day in My Writing (and non-writing) Life
I’m writing this blog on Wednesday morning, to send to Sam . I have procrastinated over topics. When I first though about it, days ago, I was inwardly growling over rewrite suggestions. Since then, I have attended to many of them. Rewrites are excellent. So, I get several pages of suggestions from my editor, look at them and think, She’s destroying my book. She doesn’t understand my style, doesn’t understand why people read my books. Then, I start attending to each point. Three chapters along, I think, Not so bad. By the time I’m halfway through, I decide that she knows what she’s doing and her suggestions are making the book much better. Rewrites have vastly improved twenty-three out of twenty-three of my books.
My editor is my first reader. When she points out something she wants changed, she’s essentially saying that what’s there doesn’t work for her. So I do something else. And it’s working again, hooray! Topic 1 concluded for the moment.
